Hey guys

I was just checking out the current standings, a few shocks so far and a few surprises.

Disappointed to see that every team that was promoted or 'swapped' their way into WEPL with at least a win now. Does this suggest that the quality we have in WEPL is deteriating? Heck, last year the Lumberjacks dominated Alpha.

I am also shocked to see the Nighthawks, Warriors and Scorgasms all winless at the moment. I hope to see them all get a win in two days time, all three of them need a win to have a chance of making the playoffs and frankly, deserve to be there.

Not sure about your "promotion/swapped the league" comment but for me it seems that these teams sure belong to the Pros. We (MA Trolls) had little competition in our AA#1 league and for us it's just more fun to play in a more competitve league and lose some games.

Nothing wrong with competition, hm ?

The thing about pro leagues is that very few of the original teams were "pro" quality...the teams either have to grow into it or get relegated.

The game is still very young...the next few seasons will tell who can hack it and who can't, but I'd be VERY surprised to see many of the original pro teams remaining in 7 seasons, if any at all.

Why would you be disappointed that new teams to the league are winning? Doesn't that mean there's more competition in the league and MORE quality, not less quality? I don't really understand the comment.

Yes.

May I ask how many Original teams are left?

13 in Alpha and 11 from Zeta from memory.
Alpha has mantained all the original teams except for the teams that have gotten relegated.
Zeta has one team change owner completely, one team swap out of it and three relegated.

Also, my comment about being disappointed with the success of the new teams comes from wanting the current teams to be stronger. To see a team like Korb Destroyers come in and win undoubtably against solid opposition really puts into perspective on how strong WEPL really is.

Yep i think WEPL is very strong. At least the 3rd strongest league in GLB in my opinion.

The point is that there is a relegation system that will get teams to a level where they have competition and are competative. Unfortunately, the temas/leagues were created hodge-podge so there isnt any relative strength. that is to say, just because someone is in USA Pro, which should be the absolute best, doesnt mean that they are necessarily a great team - just created or bought at the right time. Honestly, I think they need to put all the teams in the hopper and redo the leagues based on strength and then let the relegation method work, which it would. The issue now is that teams see that it would take at least 3-4 seasons of constant winning to get to a place where more than half their games were competative.

As you know, we just came up from AA. There are lots of great guys and good managers/teams there but the reality of the situation is that a team of level 12's is going to find it very hard going against a team of 16's.

I think the system would be easier if they just double the amount of teams that get promoted and relegated, ie. the two teams from the conference championship go up and the bottom four teams go down. Should make things slightly easier for everyone.

There are still several teams in AAA who could come to the Pro league and compete right away. But overall the WEPL is better than both AAA leagues. And it's going to get better every season.

i like the system the way it is now, but you just have to let it develop. in a couple seasons, there won't be ANY teams in the pro league that don't deserve to be here.

the fact is, if you've won a championship, no matter WHAT league youre in, you have a knack for winning. it should only be expected that you would do well in a still-developing pro league.

That's exactly the point.

I have to definitely agree with you right there, looking around at lower leagues and such, there are teams there that could be competing with teams in our league, that includes those winning their leagues, and even some that aren't. Right now, and probably for a couple more seasons, everything is sorting out and hopefully in a couple seasons, everyone will be where they should be...the only two problems I can see happening with this are a continuing of gutting, and every ten seasons or so when players decline, it will all start a rebuilding process with leagues turning into chaos again as everyone rebuilds.

I doubt that will happen. People are always making new players, so they're all at different levels right now. All of the first retirees will likely be replaced with players that will have to retire a season or two later, and so on. A lot of Pro League teams will probably be run a lot like the Yankees (sign aging stars to huge contracts; then, when they retire, replace them with new aging stars...again to huge contracts).
