Forum > Position Talk > FB Club > Blocking A.I. seems to be buggy. Thoughts?

My full back seems plenty fast out of the blocks--- then stops inexplicably about a half yard short of hitting the hole and barely moves forward most of the time. No idea why.. it's like the A.I. is retarded some of the time.

Any help would be appreciated.

My FB does the same thing with 48 Vision.
I think lead blocking is borked because I almost never see the HB actually follow the FB anyway.

Part of it might be the plays.
The FB seems to sweep out to where the sweep meets the line of scrimmage, and that's where he stops.
There ought to be a vision check there that says; "Go pop the OLB" or "Go pop the first player in this cone of vision."

Ya, FBs are just dumb. Maybe most of them have way too low vision. I think vision = intelligence too.

My favorite is when the team is lined up in strong I and the run goes to the weakside. The FB takes 2 steps forward then just stops and stands there.

Ya that's a great one. I also love it when the FB is really fast and he runs as fast as he can as far as he can into the secondary, and then runs back to try to get the 3 tacklers he passed up on an outside pitch. LOL it's like the special olympics = FB DOTZ!!

It's almost as if they have no idea they can run at 80A% spd and wait in a zone for a block. WTF iz zone blockz?

You may want to check the play diagram.

i love it when the FB ignores the LB who is going to get the first shot at the HB and instead goes past him to block the safety or CB.

In the private FB forum there are some replays of FB's actually working like they ought to.
But those builds are all like level 72.

i agree and will take this one further , and recommend high (60+) vision AND confidence.

and i would further say , in terms of build order , that it might be a good order to do vision BEFORE blocking, because otherwise you will
have the FB not consistently hitting holes or flats to tie someone up for several seasons.

something like this STR >> SPD >> AGI >> VIS >> BLK >> CONF >> finish STAM , which wouldnt hurt to train light in the offseasons just to give him a little more pt.

Its a bit unconventional and there are some wasted alg, but he is useful earlier in his career, and doesnt require very much SA except
maybe Lead Block, which you dont have to add until lvl 64.

A case might even be made for powercapping vision first, leaving it alone at that point, and then proceeding right to speed/agi and bypassing strength till later. That would make him smart and fast enuf to find and get to blocks , very early in his career. He would mostly be going up against safeties and LBs who are not very strong either, so...
