The Experts put Week 1's interconference play in the books with a 4-1 record that featured only one real surprise: either Semarang isn't as good as we thought they'd be or Three Kingdom Warriors is a lot better than we expected. My hunch is that it's a little bit of both.
But with Week 1 behind us, we can now focus on Week 2 -- when the games break back into their conferences and everyone starts jockeying for position in the standings.
Joining us this week are a few familiar faces from last week's expert panel -- Polor, Dujo and CMON. Dujo and CMON decided to tackle the challenge of picking for both conferences, but Polor stuck with his own in Garuda.
The new voices for this week include MadCow (who might currently be banned but we got him anyways), Victory Jones (who missed MadCow like a lady of the night misses visits to a free clinic), MDterps (who thinks Ben Roethlisberger is a dawg) and driftinggrifter (who singlehandedly put Bort's kids through college with is dots). MadCow is joining Polor to pick Garuda, while MD and grifter are taking aim at Naga. Victory is taking the league-wide plunge.
Once again there are a bunch of duds on the schedule, but there's also some potentially good games. For my money, these are the most intriguing matchups:
=============HAOLE'S GAME OF THE WEEK =============
Tet Offensive (1-0) at Bangalore Monsoon (1-0)
GARUDA CONFERENCE
It almost seems a shame to waste this game so early in the season, as two of the top contenders for the Garuda crown square off right at the start of conference play. But from sheer interest alone, this game is off the charts.
Last season, these two teams didn't meet until Week 16, with Bangalore ekeing out a thrilling 13-10 win to clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference. But in the Conference semifinals rematch, Tet got rolling early and held off a furious Bangalore rally to earn the right for the Offensive to get beat by eventual champion Krungthep.
So far this season, these teams look like they haven't missed a beat. Tet spanked Golden Hill 141-3 in the season-opener, racking up almost 950 yards that included two 300-yard QBs and a 6-TD game by running back Rampage Highwind. Bangalore had a bit of a tougher opponent in the Cambodia Assassins, but the Monsoon still managed to earn a yardage advantage of almost 2:1 inlcuding a pair of 100-yard running backs.
Which team will be victorious this time around? I wonder if one of our two resident Tet experts has an opinion on that.
"After a regular season, Tet redeemed themselves in the playoffs by beating Bangalore to advance to the conference finals, only to get pooped on by the Garudas," said Tet owner Polorl69. "That was season 14, this is season 15. Tet has finally learned the meaning of lolpreseason. While that will never be an excuse here at Tet, and we fully expect to pad our stats vs the Monsoon, we are not taking them lightly. After the offseason aquisition of Quinn's (former Bangalore OC) MVP QB Melvin Sniffleberg, MLB Lenny Abromawitz, and SS Jamal Oakley this game clearly means more then a lolpreseason game. Tet has the best passing attack in the league, Bangalore probably has the best pass defense in the league. Do we want to assert our will on them or do we want to run on them like we did in the playoffs? Will our egos take over or our smarts? Time will tell. This will be a great game, one of the best regular season matchups of the season. Both clubs have mutually respected each other for seasons now, may the best team win!!!!"
In case you were wondering, he picked Tet to win 48-17 in "one of the best regular season matchups of the season."
Do the other experts agree? Yep.
THE EXPERTS: Tet 5, Monsoon 0

A rematch of last seasons LOLGaruda's conference semifinals. Tet avenged a regular season loss and knocked out the top seed. Since then a lot has changed for Bangalore. Namely QuinnQn2. He has joined TET and this is a highly anticipated matchup for both sides. Almost like when McNabb returns to Philly for the first time. TET has too much fire power for Bangalore this time -- TET by 17

GOTW IMO... The Monsoon have always played Tet tough but this is the season for the Offesive to show us their Tets... QB Mel Sniffleberg,a former SEAPL MVP, is off to a redhot start as he makes a run at the SEAPL HoF... Tet shouldnt lose a lolregseason game.
<0> MadCow DTD <0>
This was a great matchup last season, but Bangalore is a much different team. Without Quinn to carry them,(The OC or The Agent) I expect them to struggle. Bangalore has always been classy, but classy is boring, Tet by 13

GOTW in SEAPL! Two of the absolute top teams go at it, but I have to trust in the builds of Tet.
