Last year i played with the DMVP who had 150+ sacks in a lvl 34 capped league. I was better than him, or about the same, in everything but Jumping and confidence. I had 20 some sacks. I figured his confidence was getting him more of the 'jump the snap' plays but than i started thinking about jumping.

At the combine the broad jump and the vert jump are two of the most important things nfl scouts use to rate DE's. This is because it is the best indicator of how fast they will get out of their stance. Has anyone else had success with de's who have hops? Would that turn some hurries into sacks since they'll dive at the qb from further away?

just brain storming.

Guess you'd have to define "his jumping skills".

I haven't put much thought into jumping or confidence yet. I've trained them both to what I "think" is an appropriate level. My DE had 150+ sacks last year, "almost" identical DE on my team was in your predicament - ~20 sacks.

I always thought of jumping effecting deflections and diving tackles more than i would have getting out of their stance, I would attribute that more towards vision.

High, being low 50's. I think that is high for a lvl 37 de. Or really any DE i've seen on this game.

Just looks as though they capped jumping early and let the leveling take it to where it is now. My guess would be they are lower in one of the other major attributes. I still wouldn't put a whole lot into jumping IMO, can't see how that would increase the sacks [to that extent], with just single-capping it.

Jumping increases the range at which you can try a sack, therefore, jumping.

I would say jumping increases the range at which you can swat a ball, deflect a pass, therefore jumping shouldn't increase your likelihood of making a sack...IMO there needed to be another attribute [Diving}.

Here is the definition GLB uses for "jumping"

Jumping

* Need to lay out for a pass? Want to gain an couple extra yards on defense? Plan on swatting that ball away? Jumping is crucial to all of those things. It is also important when making diving tackles and diving for yardage when carrying the ball.

So of course you would name it "jumping"

Look, I'm just telling you how GLB is. Don't bring logic and real life reasoning to a GLB discussion... Correct or not, jumping helps you get more sacks.

There has to be more to this story.

You're one of those people that doesn't like to have other opinions added into a discussion I see...

I for one disagree with what your saying concerning jumping; my level 27 DE has 198 sacks over 5 seasons, and I have yet to put a single SP into jumping. Like it or not, jumping hasn't helped my DE get sacks.

You can say to not add logic, hell, you can act like you're the know-all end-all of DE builds, agility/speed/vision is much more important to a DE [IMO] than jumping. Without adding to jumping, I've managed to build a very successful DE.

Jumping has been proven to help with diving tackles... which will help with diving sacks. So you're wrong.

Also, no one really gives a fuck what your DE has done at low levels. As much was you may want to put weight into it, it's not really hard to beat low level linemen who have only invested in strength/blocking/agility (at most).

Homage, do you like to simply make up stuff by reading the names without reading GLB past forums?

Jumping, as already tested by GLB members, ONLY helps with tackles (diving), deflections (passes), and NOT sacks. Which we shouldn't be surprise because Bort likes to nerf sacks. There are a few solid DE makers that shared the secret of NOT wasting points in Jumping.

Confidence, however, is another story, do not neglect that but the consensus is first cap confidence is more than enough.

Glad you decided to NOT read the first post of the thread --

He was in a Cap 34 league last year -- i.e. [low level], hence my point was/is relative to this thread. Your point on the other hand, absolutely no basis for comparison.

Like BiggerBlue reiterated....jumping for diving tackles...NOT diving sacks.

Bort has confirmed, test server games have sort-of-confirmed (since there are too few).

"tested by GLB members" <- I'd like to know the methodology chosen and the numbers involved, what is the control group, etc.

I'd rather believe bort.

EDIT: Talking about jumping of course. And previously, when talking about logic, I meant IRL logic. This is not a matter of opinions. I'm not sharing my opinion at all. I'm sharing what I accept as a fact by coming from the developers. I don't have an opinion as I've never tested jumping on a pass rusher.

a sack is not a tackle? O_o

I believe you actually have to attempt a tackle to make a sack... if your (diving) tackling radius is larger because of jumping, you attempt the tackle from further away, which means sooner than someone with a smaller radius = more sacks.
