I'm starting with the West, I should have the East up tomorrow (though its 4 am here so technically later today). I wanted to bold some of the stuff but I'm not sure how <b> didn't work. If anyone knows how let me know, it'll make things more neat.

Western Conference Week 1 Rankings

1) Anchorage Seawolves: 1-0
Last Game: 65-7 Win over Ambridge

Pros: They showed why the were number 1 going into the season, and may be the early favorites to win the league title. Their 3 Running Backs combined for 267 yards on 46 carries. It is going to be hard to contain them. Tyrone Uchiyama had 33 pancakes, and their O-Line as a whole went crazy.

Cons: Anchorage gave up a lot of yards to Ambridge’s TE, some of the better teams may exploit that. The other con coming out of this game is they don’t get to face Ambridge again this season.

Next Game: At Corvallis Furburgers

2) Reno 911: 1-0
Last Game: 31-17 Win over Hyborian

Pros: Reno 911 came into the season trying to bounce back from a tough playoff exit, and they faced a very tough Divine Messenger squad. They never really were challenged in the game as QB Rip VanWinkle had an 80% completion rate.

Cons: There isn’t much bad to come out of this game for Reno. They beat the formerly #2 ranked Divine Messengers to open the season and they get to face a reeling Kalamazoo team next week.

Next Game: At Kalamazoo Wolverines

3) Albuquerque Mustangs: 1-0
Last Game: 47-10 Win over Trojan

Pros: While this game was an easy one for the Mustangs, blowing out the Warriors shows that they are again for real. This team has a legit shot to challenge Anchorage this season and could also come out of the Western Conference. Buster Pimps and Crotin Walker look unstoppable.

Cons: Similarly to Anchorage, Albuquerque’s biggest con is they don’t get to face the Warriors again. They gave up a big 57 yard TD pass in the first half, but other than that their defense looked solid. The next game will show a lot about this team

Next Game: Vs. Chattanooga Quarantine

4) San Diego Marauders: 1-0
Last Game: 43-14 Win over Kalamazoo

Pros: I may have underrated San Diego a little going into this season. They were one of the best in the West last season, barely failing to get past Buffalo in the playoffs. This game against Kalamazoo shows that they are ready to roll this season. Oddly, they seem to have a QB tandem. Both performed well and Obergfell threw 3 TD passes. It also helps when your kicker goes 5/5 on FGs.

Cons: Not much to say in this category as San Diego really put it to an outmatched Wolverines squad.

Next Game: At Dakota Ruffians

5) Hyborian Divine Messengers: 0-1
Last Game: 17-31 Loss to Reno

Pros: QB Steven Duffy played well and their O-Line got a some pancakes.

Cons: Going into the season #2 was a curse in both conferences, but this was an outcome I didn’t expect. Great HB Matthew Shanahan had a rough first game and the team committed two turnovers and forced none. They have what should be an easy game against the Trojan Warriors next week, and if they don’t show up for that game I don’t see the rest of the season going very well for the Divine Messengers

Next Game: Vs. Trojan Warriors

6) Corvallis Furburgers: 1-0
Last Game: 23-12 win over Oakyville

Pros: Corvallis got off to a fast start and never looked back. Their FB is their number one rusher, which is odd, but it worked very well in controlling the pace of the game. G Tavita Thompson had a nice 23 pancakes in the process

Cons: This game shouldn’t have been as close as it was. Corvallis is going to surprise some people this season, but they need to win bigger in games like this. They will face a very tough test in next weeks game against Anchorage. If they can keep it close they should be happy

Next Game: Vs. Anchorage Seawolves

7) Chattanooga Quarantine: 1-0
Last Game: 29-14 win over San Francisco

Pros: If you look at the score, you’d this it was a close game. The truth is, the Wildcats did not put points on the board until about 10 minutes to go in the game. Their final score came on a long pass with under 2 minutes to go. They weren’t really challenged.

Cons: Overall they should be happy with their performance. They probably should have put up more points, but a win is a win. They just need to hope the late TDs aren’t a sign of them wearing down as the game goes on because in close games that can’t happen.

Next Game: At. Albuquerque Mustangs

8) Omaha Dogs: 0-1
Last Game: 24-34 loss to Houston

Pros: WOW! I don’t think there is anything good to come from this game. I don’t want to say they overlooked Houston, because that would be taking away from Houston’s win, but hopefully they come to play from here on out, because they really are one of the better teams in this conference.

Cons: They lost to the Houston Apollos, who, going into the season were considered one of the worst teams in the conference. Maybe the Apollos are better than we all thought, but that doesn’t excuse Omaha’s loss. This was the biggest surprise of week 1. They get another team they should beat in San Francisco next week. If something goes wrong there we’re going to have to start asking some questions.

Next Game: At San Francisco Wildcats

9) Rocky Mountain Rampage: 1-0
Last Game: 17-0 win over Dakota

Pros: In their first game as the Rampage they gave their home crowd a treat. A shutout is good no matter what team your facing. They finished 9th last season and could certainly make a push for the playoffs this season if they keep playing like this. They also get to face Ambridge next week.

Cons: It’s hard to come out of a 17-0 win with anything bad to say. I’m sure they wished they had scored in the 2nd half, but in the end, a win is a win. They beat a team they should have beat which is more than I can say for a few teams.

Next Game: At Ambridge Brigade

10) Houston Apollos: 1-0
Last Game: 34-24 win over Omaha

Pros: This is the biggest win in franchise history. To come into a season being looked upon as one of the weak teams in the conference, and than beating one of the ‘powerhouses’ shows a lot of character. Congratulations to the Houston Apollos, I for one hope they can keep this up.

Cons: Nothing, celebrate this win

Next Game: At Oakyville Nungas

11) Oakyville Nungas: 0-1
Last Game: 12-23 loss to Corvallis

Pros: They kept it close against a pretty good team. They may not be in the top tier in the conference but this is not a team you want to overlook. Their QB was 15/19, which is nothing to scoff at. Their top two LBs also played very good games.

Cons: Their ground game never got going. If it had they really would have had a chance. Their D-Line spent a lot of the game on their ass also, as Corvallis had a lot of pancakes. The final con is they missed an XP, which can’t happen on a regular basis.

Next Game: Vs. Houston Apollos

12) Kalamazoo Wolverines: 0-1
Last Game: 14-43 loss to San Diego

Pros: They lost to a good team, so at least they have that going for them.

Cons: Top teams don’t get blown out like that. San Diego is a very good team, but losing by 29 points is a big loss to any team. Thankfully for them it is only the first game of the season and they have plenty of time to bounce back. The thing is, they don’t get a break next week as Reno comes to town

Next Game: Vs. Reno 911

13) Dakota Ruffians: 0-1
Last Game: 0-17 loss to Rocky Mountain

Pros: They only gave up 17 points. They held the Rampage scoreless in the 2nd half. If they can get their offense going good things can happen

Cons: The thing about the pros section is getting their offense going is a big IF. They just might not have the offense firepower to compete this year. Oh, and they face San Diego next week.

Next Game: Vs. San Diego Marauders

14) San Francisco Wildcats: 0-1
Last Game: 14-29 loss to Chattanooga

Pros: They kept it close against one of the top 8 teams in the conference. They didn’t play bad and while their TDs at the end of the game we’re meaningless they showed they can compete and should win a respectable number of games this season

Cons: The game never really was close. In the end they’ll just have to keep trying to find the right combination and like I said, they’ll win some games this season.

Next Game: Vs. Omaha Dogs

15) Trojan Warriors: 0-1
Last Game: 10-47 Loss to Albuquerque

Pros: They had a 57 yard TD pass. That’s always a good thing. It’s too bad they we’re never really a threat to the Mustangs

Cons: 47-10

Next Game: At Hyborian Divine Messengers

15) Ambridge Brigade: 0-1
Last Game: 7-65 loss to Anchorage

Pros: They don’t have to face Anchorage again

Cons: They have to face 15 other teams

Next Game: Vs Rocky Mountain Rampage

Next Weeks Big Games:

#1 Anchorage at #6 Corvallis

Anchorage should win this game, but if Corvallis can keep it close, or pull of an upset, the whole western conference picture will change.

#7 Chattanooga at #3 Albuquerque

A lot of people still hate Chattanooga for their scandal last season. This will be their first test of the season and I have a feeling a lot of people will be rooting for the Mustangs

#10 Houston at #11 Oakyville

This is going to show a lot about Houston. Did everything just click for them against Omaha? Are they for real? We’ll find out a lot about them in this game vs the Nunjas.

Here is the Eastern Conference Rankings for week 1, without any comments. I'll add them later

1. Akron Assassins
2. Alpine Golfers
3. Richmond Speed
4. Chicago Bruins
5. New Orleans Eagles
6. Tampa Vipers
7. Memphis Ghetto Dawgs
8. North Carolina Lighthouses
9. Schenectady Comets
10. Philadelphia Brokebacks
11. Klamath Falls Grizzlies
12. Elk Rapids Elks
13. Denver Stallions
14. Orlando Mamba
15. South Beach Tokers
16. Suspiciously Fishless

Thoughts: I decided not to do 1a and 1b, but Akron and Alpine are as close as they can be. Alpine really took it to Chicago, and while Akron faced the 16th ranked team, they blew them out as expected. I definitely underrated Memphis, and overrated my own team (who wouldnt). Elk Rapids also played well consdidering they faced Richmond, who even though they cheat, is still sadly pretty good.

Great ranking. Like what you said about us Anchorage boys. We'll look to improve on that.

I think your assessment is fair about Omaha. We didn't overlook Houston, but they did play very well. Our 5 turnovers killed us and they capitalized. Obviously, we'll look to turn things around this week and hopefully get back to winning.

Great game Houston.

Thanks again for doing this Sabres! Looking forward to your comments on the east! Extremely happy that we dominated the Bruins, which you had above us in the preseason rankings.

Very good write-ups. And yea, we Marauders were feeling a bit over-looked going into the season...

A team that absolutely shocked my team and cinderella'd to the play-offs. How could you forget them?

I remember saying "I feel sorry for San Diego". Then we somehow lost by 5 fieldgoals. 15-10.
