Actually... FS is pretty good. It's just not as good as CD. It's something you should pump up near the end of the CB's career. Of course when I say this I mean it as if they were a returner.

Ooops sorry guys. I forgot to mention I was not talking about a KR/PR. Just someone that covers kicks and punts.

Then CD is very good and FS is worthless. The speed of your dot at the beginning of the kick off is capped so that you don't run past the ball faster than the kicker kicks it. Because of that, FS won't trigger.

Are you sure?
I've heard that CS causes defenders to make a B-line to the ball carrier even if that means running straight into a blocker.

It only kicks in after the returner catches the ball.

I thought FS only fires from a dead stop - are you saying FS is good for a KR/PR just for the initial burst to reach top speed more quickly?

Yes. At top levels of the game your ability as a returner is determined almost entirely be how fast you can get to the first tackler. By having high first step you can get a boost to above your normal max speed almost as soon as you catch the ball.
