What should a level 50 WR that is built to catch the ball in coverage by penalizing the defender's initial PD/INT check (particularly on 3rd down) look like? How much catching, jumping, vision, and strength should he have? What are the best SAs, VAs and AEQ bonuses for such a build?

I ask because my team's passing game has pretty much always sucked whenever we face a halfway decent defense. It seems like most good defenses have no trouble deflecting 50-65% of our passes no matter what I've tried to do with the QB and play calling.

catching/jumping/carrying/strength

VA's like possession receiver and clutch are nice for receivers

Right, well carrying isn't going to come into play until AFTER the catch, it isn't going to do anything to help prevent the ball being deflected before the receiver makes the catch. I also highly doubt Clutch is going to be the #1 or #2 VA you take on a WR with so many other options, though it would help (probably in a small way when compared to other, more specific, VA bonuses you can get) prevent deflections. Any opinions from people that actually have high level WRs?

Let me try this again, the following is the most detailed description I have seen Bort give for how passes are defended, the parts I am concerned with are bold.

- I have to see the ball is coming in the first place (vision check)
- I have to get into position near enough the the ball to interact with it (speed/agility etc)
- I have to check if I am even going to get a chance to interact with the ball (Int check? No? Swat check instead?)
- If I'm near the WR, I have to fight with him to see who gets a chance at the ball (my roll vs his roll)
- If I win, I get to intercept or swat the ball. (depends on first roll type that succeeded, and if the WR gives me trouble catching it)
- If I lose, the receiver gets to try and catch the ball. It's all up to him now, though my being close by makes it harder on him.
- If the receiver fails to catch the ball, I get once more chance to try and intercept it if I am close enough.
- If the receiver catches it, now I've got to tackle him. Here's my chance to knock it loose with a good hit.

Basically I want to get some opinions on how much catching, jumping, and strength (and vision?) as well what SAs/VAs/AEQ a receiver should have when he leaves the minor leagues if he wants to be able to compete against good corners that are swatting down the majority of passes thrown his way. There has been some discussion of WRs that are "roll winners" in the higher levels and that catch lots of passes even in double coverage by quality defenders. Since my QB and WRs struggle to complete passes against even single coverage by mediocre defenders, I thought I'd see what I was doing wrong.

Can't just give you the secrets can I?

(only from competitive games)

My vision and catching are both around 70. My jumping is single capped. 5 in sticky hands and 15 in slot machine (sticky hands bonus)
They probably all contributed, especially the catching and sticky hands.
I think you're just having the deflection occur (not beating it) then still making an attempt at securing the ball in that split second before it hits the ground. Takes good catching skills, which to me includes all of the following: catching, vision, jumping, strength, and agility.

Nice, I thought jumping was more important and was about to take it to 60. I have probably vastly undervalued vision, my guys just have less than 55 in it.

My guy also has 93 agility atm

Also I feel like completion percentage will raise if I increase my jumping and invest 5 or so VAs into ball hawk, for the offchance that the ball is thrown out of range (occurs about 1 in 5 targets for me atm due to hurry pressure etc) and maybe a bonus to catching rolls.

This play from tonight's game is typical of why I hate my WRs:

I don't get around most of them, and I think I would win more with strength and jumping higher.

needs more jumping and/or ball hawk:

needs more strength:
