A high standard to keep going now...currently 24-4.
GOTW1
The Evil Empire (5-1) @ Bath Killer Bees (4-2)
Although Bath have excelled on defense, their offense has often failed to fire as well as last season - this will therefore be a low scoring game. Empire have the better record but have had a far easier schedule, and I think that might just be the key to this game - Bath have had to be on their game everytime and that sharpness in scouting will win them this one.
Prediction: Bath by 3.
Actual: Bath 22-20 - how many close games are Bath going to have this season? There was a lot of luck involved with the Empire getting a chance to win the game, but their defense crumbled at the worst time. The final game for Bath against Amsterdam could be very interesting...
GOTW2
Team Perkis (4-2) @ Hamburg Parrots (4-2)
Very similar to the other GOTW, although here Hamburg have an impressive offense rather than defense, with Perkis being the balanced team. I'd expect both teams to have similar results against the other teams in the conference, and having lost in the inter-conference game this will decide playoff positioning between the two. It's close to call this one, but I'm a defense guy so I'm going with Perkis here.
Prediction: Perkis by 10.
Actual: Parrots 23-20 - Hamburg's defense finally shows some pluck! Great play to force the punt in normal time then the perfect 3-and-out to pin Perkis on their line in OT. You wouldn't have said this result after the 1st half, but Hamburg have done well to join the guys at 5-2.
Dresden Demons (5-1) @ Warsaw Wolves (3-3)
I just can't get a handle on Warsaw this season, and I wonder whether their chemistry is the problem? Although I'm not sure whether Dresden are as strong as their record suggests (although the result against Bath was v.impressive), they've shown enough to make me think they'll get a result here. These next three games will shape their season though.
Prediction: Dresden by 7.
Actual: Warsaw 31-20 - I'd be worried for Dresden now...Warsaw really made them pay for the lost fumbles, and with a tough couple of games now they could go on a long run of losses. Warsaw remain the enigma of this division!
Belfast Commandos (2-4) @ Amsterdam Affliction (6-0)
Amsterdam get another 2-win team to play. Belfast's season is pretty much already off the rails, though I think they could pick up another 6 wins before mounting a more sustained attack next season. Amsterdam should score around 60-70 points here I think.
Prediction: Amsterdam by 50.
Actual: Amsterdam 34-16 - definitely some encouragement there for Belfast, especially with the performance of the run defense. Their next game against Red Star will be very interesting. This results is a little worrying for Amsterdam, though their QB is pretty special and will get them out of trouble in a lot of games.
La Tourette Syndrome (6-0) @ Plainview Bulldogs (0-6)
It'll be interesting to get a close look at the Bulldogs here, after the ribbing I've given them on these write-ups this season.
Actual: 132-0.
Lyon Winemakers (4-2) @ Stockholm Meatballs (0-6)
Stockholm are ranked 30th with the scripts, but I think this is harsh on them...their defense is actually not too bad but their offense has really hurt them this season. Lyon will do well to better the Plainview result from the previous week, which I think they'll fail to do.
Prediction: Lyon by 49.
Actual: Lyon 51-5 - not often you see 2 safeties in a game! Whilst Stockholm didn't score much, the total yardage gained against a 5-2 team should be an encouragement. Lyon do what was expected.
Rome Titans (0-6) @ Bjelasnica Red Star (2-4)
I can't put Parts anywhere else than the last game, so this game sits here. Rome have officially had the hardest schedule of the Zeta teams so far, and this will lead to their first losing record as a franchise. If they can win this one then they've got a chance of getting around 6 wins this season, but it would take a big effort and a bit of luck to derail Red Star and I don't see that happening.
Prediction: Bjelasnica by 31.
Actual: Bjelasnica 27-7 - considering Red Star needed the final quarter to make this game safe, I feel more confident about my win prediction for Rome. Rome should just forget about the running game...the pass was far more effective! These two should be sitting around the 10th spot at the end of the season.
D-Town Bushwalkers (3-3) @ Parts Unknown (0-6)
With a not too difficult schedule, D-Town haven't exactly impressed. Worryingly, they'll be FAR too strong for Parts, who really should be doing better than they are according to the team talent ranking script.
Prediction: D-Town by 70.
Actual: D-Town 65-23 - Parts finally realised they had an offense! (in the last quarter anyway...) D-Town must be worried about their defense on this showing, although they are now over the .500 mark!
PREDICTION RECORD: 5-2 (dang), and 29-6 in total now.
