Texan's Week 7 Picks

Current Record: 83-13

May not have time for this tomorrow, so we'll do it earlier.

Time to celebrate the greatest video games of the 80s. Get out your 2600s, Amigas and Commodore 64s.

Naga

NBA Jam (6-0) v HKH (1-5)
While the Jam is certainly "Elite", the fight seems to have gone out of HKH for now. Look for the Jam to put it on like "Donkey Kong" in this one. NBA 65, HKH 6.

Monks (6-0) v The Blue (3-3)
The Monks withstood the "Tempest" thrown at them by a very game SCSK team and now face a Blue team fresh off the organization's first win over PDP. Look for the "Maniac Mansion" of coordinators over at the blue to give their best in this one, but I like the Monks after their wakeup call. Monks 31, The Blue 20.

SLS (6-0) v SCSK (2-4)
SCSK has been very competitive in a difficult part of their schedule and are looking to go Metroid on an SLS team that has yet to get to the meat of their schedule, but it's too the point where a morale loss might be hurting. SLS can't be blamed for beating who's in front of them and they have looked pretty good doing it with more firepower than in "Contra". SLS 24, SCSK 17.

Saigon (6-0) v CMM (1-5)
Saigon has been playing "Dungeon Master" of Naga so far this season and looks to continue the trend against a CMM team that had a lot of problems with the Jam. CMM is not expecting to win this one I'm sure, but hoping not to look like "The Hobbit" in the process. Saigon 75, CMM 10.

Tibet (5-1) v Rumrunners (0-6)
A tough season continues for the Rumrunners but they may be having a "Final Fantasy" of beating Tibet. Tibet is really an under the radar contender after apparently taking "International Karate" lessons in the offseason. Look for them to roll here. Tibet 52, Rumrunners 9.

PDP (3-3) v Thai (2-4)
Two teams used to winning a lot aren't right now while in rebuilding and both teams probably feel like they've been through the "Koronis Rift". Whichever team can "Out Run" the other will take this one and it is important for the playoff run, especially for Thai. Biased for my home team any? PDP 27, Thai 20.

Bacolod (3-3) v PPW (0-6)
As far as I remember, this will be Bacolod's first winning record in Pro this late in the season as they plan to go "Star Wars" to PPW's "Ms Pacman". Bacolod 120, PPW 3.

Bali (2-4) v Mekong (2-4)
The loser here will be virtually an "Exile" from the playoffs, though certainly not mathematically speaking. Which team has the "Thrust" to win? Bali 35, Mekong 10.

garuda

Krungthep (6-0) v Sydney (3-3)
Krungthep has gone "Missile Command" on every bastig in SEAPL so far this season and now they have Sydney sighted up. Can Sydney be successful in this "Impossible Mission"? I am doubting. Krungthep 55, Sydney 6.

Bangalore (6-0) v Ottawa (1-5)
The nightmare schedule continues for poor Ottawa as they "Scramble" to stay alive. Bangalore has been "The Sentinel" in garuda with their consistently strong play and I see that continuing in this one. Bangalore 35, Ottawa 27.

LSP (6-0) v Danang (2-4)
Rough loss last time out for Danang and now they face garuda "Archon" LSP. Watching replays in this one may make the loser feel like they're in a "3D Deathcase" but I think this game could be more entertaining than the records indicate. LSP 37, Danang 20.

Tet (6-0) v Lucid (3-3)
Lucid has started to "Dig Dug" and are ready to "Combat" Tet. Will Lucid's traditional dominance over Tet be diminished with the name change? I don't think it's the name but I do think things are different now. Tet 45, Lucid 30.

Buffalo (4-2) v BKK (3-3)
Perception is that Buffalo is having a much better season but reality is that one game separates them. Buffalo feels like their ship to greatness got pummeled by "Asteroids" last time out but can BKK avoid the Pitfall most teams face against Buffalo? Should be interesting. Buffalo 37, BKK 30.

Lampang (4-2) v RSR (1-5)
I picked RSR a few times off of the strength of their early play but lately it has flattened the way "Frogger" does after a car hits him. Lampang may be no "Superman", but I like the way they are playing and planning. Lampang 27, RSR 14.

Sweatshop (2-4) v Dharma (CPU)
The Sweatshop is finally showing signs of life at the factory with the "Chopper Command" looking after operations more closely now. Watch for the Sweatshop to conduct a simple "River Raid" here and plunder Dharma. Sweatshop 255, Dharma 0.

Singapore (2-4) v MMJ (0-6)
The Canes have been hanging in there on the periphery and it will continue here as they go "Kaboom!" all over an MMJ team that has sunk lower than "Atlantis". Singapore 59, MMJ 17.

Good, except it wasn't so much that we got pummeled by "Asteroids" today, but that our entire team played like they had "hemorrhoids".

Thanks Texan. I've never heard of the game you used for Tibet though (Or have completely forgotten it). I've actually been brushing up my math skills with Math Blaster on the good old Apple IIe. Everyone knows this game is all about the math.

Wouldn't be the first time.

kcfdx: You never heard of Dig Dug or Combat? Combat was an Atari 2600 game and Dig Dug was really popular on PC back in the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dig_Dug

Tibet, not Tet... international karate I believe is what he was referring too. I have never heard of it either TBH, I remember karate champ though, the one with the two joysticks.

ah, reading comprehension ftw

Ya, international karate was almost exactly the same game as karate champ but on computer instead of arcade.
