First, I capped vision and then first capped catching. I'm now level 7 and want to build a receiving TE with good speed so he can actually get some YAC. I just started training speed. Is this a good idea? I feel like if I continue with catching or train strength, I'll be lacking in speed/agi. And speed/agi is what will get him open right? (with all those 68+ speed OLBs out there)

I haven't built a receiving TE that way but sounds like you have a good plan.
I built my receiving TE to be like a WR, lots of speed and agility then catching then carrying then vision then jumping.

And you're right, speed/agility will get him open.

Good start, focusing on the major attributes first. If you ever want to cap strength at any point in your player's career, now is the time to do it due to the ALGs. You may want to second cap catching also before moving on to speed/agility also.

what do you guys mean by receiving TE??

he's gonna be too damn slow to do anything if you keep capping for level gains. Catching is the only one I would do early.

I'm aiming for 140+ speed at L72. Your route you'll be lucky to hit 110.

not a good start at all. but it really does not matter, since ANY rec te built in the last 2-3 seasons should retire and start with an archetype class.

anyway, here is what you did wrong, even though it means jack shit when everything changes next season: you have to cap catching first at ~ 61. thats actually plenty high, you could go lower since the ALGs are so great. 68 really is over kill.

next, go strength. that is a much more important to a rec te than vision. KL passes suck, and your going to need lots of STR and CAR to avoid them. again, the ALGs make it a stat you have to take care of sooner rather than later, even if you cap it at 48 or a bit higher.

cap vision last of the 3 majors, no higher than 48. vision really is not crucial, and is < important than SPD, AGL, STR, CAT, CAR for a rec te. but, its a major so you might as well cap it early on to get those freebie ALGs.

And even though Dolphin Greats has the right idea for a rec te, his advice is terrible. you have to ignore SPD and AGL until your relevant majors are out of the way. then pump them as high as you can. no rec te should have less than 73 capped SPD and AGL.

So in conclusion: all this advice, and all the advice about building TEs you can find on this board, just went out the window. the new archetype system changes everything, and it will benefit the rec te greatly

Keeping my majors low doesn't seem to matter when I have 5 yards on my defender.

Oh I just checked and catching 70% of the passes thrown my way. Don't get much better than that.
