Texan's Week 2 Picks

Current Record: 15-1

Naga

SCSK (1-0) v CMM (0-1)
The Suicide Kings were dancing to Rock Lobster after getting their first ever Pro win, but doing it AA style against a gutted team. CMM's comments about playing the new kids: "People are people, so why should it be you and I get along so awfully?" Fortunately no need to get along on the field. CMM actually put up more yards in their defeat, but gave up a horrendous rushing average that could haunt them again here. SCSK 30, CMM 23.

Bacolod (1-0) v Shadow Lake (1-0)
Someone is about to get their first loss and Bacolod says "come on eileen", don't let it be us. Shadow Lake views this as a "once in a lifetime" chance to storm Pro as a rookie team. The Skullcrushers had what amounts to a bye week against MMJ (who would have ever thought we would say that?) The friendly Snakeheads had a AAA show-down and came up big on D. This is an excellent test for both squads, but I like what I have seen out of that Shadow Lake run D: Snakeheads 20, Bacolod 10.

NBA Jam (1-0) v Thai Fighters (0-1)
The Jam is looking like the team they claim to be and for them it's "sweet dreams". Thai meanwhile would love to be doing the Safety Dance in the Jam endzone, but do get that done they'll have to shore up a defense exposed by WL-level Krungthep game planning. I can see Thai making a lot of tactical changes here and coming out with guns blazing. NBA 35, Thai 17.

Mekong Delta Force (1-0) v Tibet Psychonauts (0-1)
It looks like Mekong feels they should start planning earlier than usual this season if they're going to "whip it, whip it good". Tibet feels they have an easier matchup than against Tet and they see themselves launching 99 red balloons when this is over. Certainly Mekong has plugged in a lot of new parts and will compete, but I think Tibet's overall talent and chemistry advantage give them the edge. Tibet 24, Mekong 17.

Monks (1-0) v Bali (0-1)
The Monks dogfight win week 1 has Boomy screaming "take on me" and not the way he usually means it. Bali is hoping a good study of video will kill the radio stars over in Palembang after a defensive loss to a tough Lucid team. All in all Bali will be very competitive in this game, but I think the Monks d-line will prove to be the difference. Monks 28, Bali 14.

Saigon Whores (1-0) v PPW (0-1)
The new golden boys of Naga are already crowning themselves with cries of "how soon is now"? PPW won't be able to do much about it and will have a lot less brass in pocket as their fan support plummets this season. Saigon 190, PPW 0.

HKH (0-1) v PDP (0-1)
Two old time brands in SEA clash with a combined zero wins. About all the Hustlers got from their first pro game in a long time was a Blister in the Sun. PDP is looking to Rock the Casbah in this one after a tough, close loss to Garuda champion LSP. This one is going to come down to the basics and turnovers and I see PDP pulling it out--without bias of course. PDP 30, HKH 24.

St. John Rumrunners (1-0) v Mutant Smurfs (0-1)
Both teams got handled by superior opposition this time out and both of them are thinking this is their chance to pick up their first Pro win. By the end of this the Rumrunners will think they got some Tained Love (or at least tainted booze), while those smurf guys will just be thinking..."Relax". Smurfs 35, Rumrunners 17.

Garuda

Sweatshop (1-0) v LSP (1-0)
The Sweatshop are playing their first real game, whereas LSP earned an impressive win over PDP. The Sweatshop is gearing up by having all of their, um, employees listen to "Mexican Radio", while LSP is saying not in "Our House", it is a very very fine house. I think the talent is very even here, but LSP has shown me more historically in the planning category. LSP 27, Sweatshop 21.

Krungthep Garudas (1-0) v Ottawa Beavers (1-0)
The Beavs first game against an established Pro team will be telling of their season to come. The Garudas are mad about being sent back "Down Under" from the WL and are saying the Beavs "Just Got Lucky" to get here. All imposed trash-talking aside, I can't see the Beavs walking out of Krungthep with a win. Garudas 45, Beavs 20.

Lucid (1-0) v Regensburg (0-1)
Both of these squads were in a real battle week 1 and got some good self scouting to be sure. You can bet the Rain will be "Puttin' on the Ritz" for their home Pro debut, while Lucid may be "turning Japanese" after moving from Oakland. Honestly I think this one is a tossup. RSR 17, Lucid 13.

Monsoon (1-0) v Sharks (1-0)
Two teams with a lot in common age-wise and that both played teams a year behind in development like they have been in the past. Bangalore knows "everybody wants to rule the world", but the Sharks are from "a big country" and somehow think that gives them an advantage. I don't buy it as I think Bangalore is a top tier team. Bangalore 30, Sydney 20.

Tet Offensive (1-0) v Singapore Canes (0-1)
Tet says we're gonna "shoot you down", while I think Singapore will be calling their girlfriends when this is over saying "hold me now". Tet 52, Singapore 3.

Lampang (1-0) v MMJ (0-1)
A really nice Pro debut for Lampang beating down but not out Pro stalwart CMM. MMJ is both down, out and "losing their religion". Not to worry, Lampang will "save a prayer" for you. Lampang 42, MMJ 9

Danang (0-1) v BKK (0-1)
Rough start for both. Danang is hoping to "celebrate" a win, but BKK is not used to losing and want this one "one way or another". I like Danang's offensive lines to open up a surprising amount of room in a mild upset. Danang 27, BKK 20.

Buffalo Rampage (1-0) v Dharma (CPU)
Easy road back on track for Buffalo. VJ has "true faith" they'll win this one because CPUs don't have "pride". Buffalo 255, Dharma 0.

For those of you unfortunate enough to miss the 80's. I think the CPU got the best song of the bunch though.

While we're on this subject, I never could tell the difference between REO Speedwagon and Air Supply. Were they the same band or something?...

I do love both of those things, but it was a "new wave" 80s as opposed to just 80s.

If he did the 70's or 60's I would have had a chance.
