Joe Namath was awful. Had 1 good game and he wasn't even that great he just made a guarantee. I'd rather have dilfer on my team and brad johnson really wasn't that bad until later in his career. Put up sick numbers in Minnesota but then again so did every qb for that 8 year span

Joe Namath was considered the best pure passer ever until Marino. He had the quickest release perhaps of all-time. The rules were much different in his day so you have to compare him to his contemporaries. Dawson and Namath are the only AFL HOF QB's (Blanda was a QB/Kicker, though a good QB). Broadway Joe was the first QB to throw for over 4000 yards when 3000 was a rarity.
By your own estimation, Johnson was one of many to put up sick numbers whereas Namath was the only one to put up sick numbers in his big years. Namath was a legend before SB III; that just cemented it. Like Sinatra sang, 'If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere" and Joe owned NY the way Mantle did!

my grandfather went to the University of Alabama and heard about how good this Joe Namath guy was supposed to be, so he went to watch all their practices for a while and came told everyone he knew back home in Florida to remember the name Joe Namath because he was going to be the best QB of all-time.
that was the first and only Super Bowl he went to because he wanted to to see Joe Namath and he took my dad with him so that he could see how great Joe Namath was in person.
when I first started trying to watch football my dad gave me a program from that super bowl they later got personally autographed by Joe Namath. he gave it to me right after my grandfather died from cancer and being a little kid i made the mistake of drawing shit all over it and showing it to my dad.
and that was the day my mom saved my life

173 touchdown passes and he threw 220 interceptions.
His career Quarterback rating is a pathetic 65.5...If it was a result of the Era he played in just look at Roger Staubach (83.4), Len Dawson (82.6) and Sonny Jurgensen (82.6) Broadway Joe is no where near any of these guys numbers.
Add in the fact that his teams had a 25-40 record in games he started after that Super Bowl win and he isn't a top 35 QB all time.
Namath is the most over rated player in the HISTORY of the NFL
