My level 61 punter just punted 34.8 yards in a preseason game on 4 punts.
There were no touchbacks. There were no short field kicks. He just punted 4 weak punts in a row with no obvious reason they'd be short. My average last year was 41.2 and that includes several touchbacks to skew my average lower.

Did mechanics change?
Is something wrong with my build in general?
Did I just have a crazy unlucky game?

All of my punters are fine. Maybe just a fluke or your tactics need adjusting? However, judging from your previous averages I'm going to say your confidence is too low and has been for a long time. Time to send the old boy to the farm.

What is your level 68 punter's confidence?

My confidence was 75 at the time of the last game.
I've gotten up to 80 now. Is that still bad?
When I originally build this punter the boards didnt talk about confidence being as important as they do now.
What season did people really open their eyes to it?

more to the point have kickers changed?

my guy is normally about 30% from 50 yards, this pre-season he's 5/5 and they aren't all 50 yarders either.

While I wouldn't qualify my lvl 68 guy as my best punter build, and I'm not opening him up completely, I'll say that you are still behind him by a decent measure. Getting it up to 80 was a good step and might buy you another season, but you aren't going to average over too much over 40/p.

If anything, it seems like punting yardage went up for deep punts. I've seen some punters on losing teams put up much better yardage per punt than they did last season. Which is bad news for my punter, or most punters on good teams that are gonna be kicking a lot of coffin corners from their own 40.

Coffin corners, meanwhile, seem to be getting caught and returned more often, and land successfully inside the 5 (and even inside the 10-15) a lot less often than a couple seasons ago. I'm used to my CC attempts being my longest punts but it hasn't looked that way so far. It might be a lot harder to win a yards per punt trophy on a good team this season if this keeps up.

Confidence is a bit overrated.

I would say 80 is already too much.
