So I've read the wiki on it and several posts.
Why can't you label a HB QB2, and label QB TE2 then set a specific play up in AI package for QB rollout, have the QB2 clicked and TE2 clicked. NO messing with the energy settings or no need for a 1 QB system to run this. (We have two QBs who cant run split time).
Simpler to set up but will it work as far as inserting the HB/QB where I set their custom slots.

What's wrong with the QB custom slots?

Nothing wrong with the slots.
All the stuff I've read about using a HB in a QB2 slot have all this energy setting stuff. Also states you should be using a one QB system.
This is much simpler, just not sure if it will put the guys where I want them.

That's outdated. Just use QB1/QB2 slot and set it up in your AI.

But aren't there penalties assessed to the HB when assigned to QB2 for playing at an unnatural position?

Yes.
