Ok, so we're continuing to roll.

My thoughts on the game:

1) Offense continues to look great, no real complaints there... especially since i don't do the AI on defense, i just sit shut up and watch you guys dominate.
2) Feudel actually looked good carrying the ball. He switched to 100% elusive, and i think it helped quite a bit. I'm also going to trim the playbook a little on the running end, take out that weak I inside run. It seemed pretty crappy today.
3) Passing game continued to look great, except for from the goalline. Their blitzing MLB gave us fits from that formation all day. I don't even think keeping the HB in would help much there, because the blitzer would come from the weak side, and the HB (for some reason) helps on the strong side. Not sure what we can do about that other than copy it ourselves on defense. Also, i'm taking out that WR screen.
4) My 2th down AI is harder than my cock when i see myself in the mirror. We didn't go for it once when i would have liked us to, and did go for it once when it was a little sketchy... i'll have to take a look at it.

If you watched the game, what did you think?

I went this game at -25 power and on 'creative'.

Switching to -500 power and 'exact' for next game.

Higgenbottom is a beast, and Catchem is decent.

I want to fix this, so essentially I am going to make Catchems build as close to Higgenbottom as I can.

Also Higgenbottom is 2 levels higher, so he has 10 more SP to spend.

Catchem:

Physical Attributes
Strength: 24.15
Speed: 83.39
Agility: 83.71

Special Abilities
Shutdown Corner Abilities
Swat Ball: 4
Sticky Hands: 4
Superior Vision: 7
Smooth Operator: 4
Shutdown Coverage: 7

Higgenbottom:

Physical Attributes
Strength: 57.88
Speed: 64.4
Agility: 40.61

Shutdown Corner Abilities
Swat Ball: 10
Sticky Hands:10
Superior Vision: 3
Smooth Operator: 5
Shutdown Coverage: 3

Stats that are too similar to matter:

Jumping, Stamina, Vision, Confidence, Catching, and Tackling.

Also our VA's are in the same direction, he just has more since he is a high level.

Catchems base speed and agility and 41 and 12 respectively, Agi is higher than Higgenbottom, but If all my equipment went into speed, I would be both faster AND more agile than him, Having 27 Agility vs his 51, and 45 Speed vs. his 84.

Another major difference in our Builds are my 24 strength and his 38 strength, I do not know how major this is, but if it is, I should be able to train it to raise it fairly high.

So if we re work Catchems equipment, he will be faster and more agile than Higgenbottom, but with less Strength and Special Abilities.

If we decide that Strength is important, I can train it, otherwise I wont, and will just spend my next 2 level ups this season on SA's, making their builds virtually the same.

Thoughts?

I got a call from Mike today and after 8 seasons and 2 neck surgery's he has decided to hang up the cleats when his current contract runs out.

He said he is very proud and honored to have gone to battle with each and everyone of you every sunday for the past 8 seasons and said he has nothing but best wishes for all.

He wanted to extend a very personal thanks to Gart for being the best owner/GM he has ever played for and hopes that everyone knows how good they have it in Halifax

With lvl 1, you start with a 50/50 chance to have either every attribute go up by 5% or down by 5% for the game.

For every level you raise streaky, it goes up by 2%, so at 10 levels, it would be 70/30
By level 15 (the max) it would be 80/20, now imagine if everyone on our team did this, since we can all max it right away, 80% of us would have a 5% boost to every stat, and 20% of us would have a reduction.

but again, remember, DON'T SPEND ANY VETERAN POINTS YET.

While watching the game tape, i'm going to pin point the plays that cost us the game. Not pointing fingers, just typical coach stuff. We must learn from our mistakes

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=549424
Both Otis and Mont cover the left side WR. No one picks up the RB. Easy TD

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=549772
Ahmad drops a ball on 3rd down when we're in the redzone. We have to settle for the field goal.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=549835
3rd and 10 we can't be leaving opponent receivers open 11 yards down the field. Teddy and Alex mix up their guys.

The next play
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=549852
We blitz with a whole bunch of guys including the strong safety. Them picking up the blitz and finding a receiver is one thing but a safety missing a tackle as the last man is simply inexcusable.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=550587
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=550603
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=550612
3 passes thrown to the end-zone that could have been completed with 2 minutes to go when we're down by 8.

This confirms what i've been suspecting. Skills are MUCH more important than special abilities, and speed/agility are the most important skills. Because whats the point of being a strong/great tackler if you can't get to the ball carrier.

Other things to consider:
Stamina is only 30 and he's a level 14. So i think all of us having stamina in the low to mid 20's is plenty.
His vision is only 26. I would have thought it was higher.
Strength and tackling are very low at 16 and 23.
Jumping and catching haven't been boosted at all.

Ok, so i've scouted the Nightmares over their last 5 games against non scrubs (Trout, Whales, Blues, Baycats, Bastard Sons).

Rushing
The go mostly up the middle, and have the most success there. They have a power back, so we NEED TO BE ON WRAP UP TACKLE! I can't stress that enough. I'm at my wit's end on that issue, if I can tell that someone wasn't on wrap up tackle for this game, they'll be benched for the rest of the season.

Passing: 11% Short, 52% Medium, 36% Long

Finally the seem to pass about 56% of the time.

So conclusion...

Our defensive settings:

EVERYONE ON WRAP UP TACKLING

DE Pass Focus
DT Rush Focus
ILB Rush Focus, Tight Coverage, Medium Interception Attempts
OLB Balanced Focus, Tight Coverage, Medium Interception Attempts
CB Pass Focus, Tight Coverage, Medium Interception Attempts
FS PASS Focus, Medium Coverage, Don't go for INTs
SS Balanced Focus, Medium Coverage, DON'T GO FOR INTS!
