I'm a 1st time DC for a peewee team.

When blitzing linebackers, in particular ILB/MLB's, is it better to line them up on the outside to blitz them? Or blitz them from the inside from their original spot? With Peewee, most linebackers do not have alot of strength so I'm thinking at this level to squeeze in DL in tight to take on the linemen and move the ILB/MLB to the edge for their blitzing plays.

Just wondering what other DC's do.

I leave them in their normal position. Doesnt tip the offense they are blitzing.

if they have strength, line em up close to the line of scrimmage, but if they got speed, take them back a lil bit>

Coldfire - So there is something in the offense AI that would tip them off that LB may blitz? I've been playing around with the 3-4 and if I do an ILB blitz from the normal spots, which means attacking against the OG's I don't see much of a pash rush from them. So for any 3-4 ILB blitz plays, I'm adjusting those custom plays to line up the ILB blitzing to the outside, and shift the line tigher to see if I get a better pash rush. I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking stuff.

olatunde - right now they got speed. In my custom plays for ILB blitz's they're in there normal spot, but I have them pushed to the front - which is probably why I'm not getting a pass rush. What you said kinda makes sense - drop them back a bit for a delayed blitz might work better.

I'm havin fun with defensive AI, pretty cool stuff.

Rather than shift the line tighter, do a shift one way or the other.
As to tip off, cant say for sure, but if you say blitz the same guy(s) out of a set formation, the AI auto adjusting could adjust to it?

Who blitzes LB's in peewee (unless their man is pass blocking)?

You can generate pass pressure from one well placed NT, and for the run game you don't want your LBs blitzing (they tend to over run the play/get eaten up by the oline and you might let the back slip through).

but I don't know much about peewee.

The QB has no play recognition in this game and can't call an audible. The games are simulated and the sim reads from the AIs.

LB blitzing against the pass in the peewees is pretty weak. Later in the season when players are more developed you might try lining the OLBs as far outside the tackles as you can and blitz them against teams that pass in long yardage situations.

Some peewee DCs blitz LBs between the tackles against run heavy teams to clog up PBs. This can be effective in some short yardage situations, but as Thunder said...LBs typically get eaten alive by O-linemen.

You can't move ILB/MLB outside regardless...

the less strength you have the more time you need for the d line to create gaps for you to slip through. So, if your lacking strength to push yourself through the line, then back off and you will see the gap develop, if your still getting caught up then back him up a little more,

there is the big secret!
