I like ball hawk and football genius, but am having a tough time deciding on where to go next.

Long reach, clutch, red zone freak, and 3rd down stop are all in consideration. Any opinions on what really works?

Go with 3rd down stopper then clutch.

3rd down stopper should be unanimous. Imo it's better than football genius by a long shot too.

depends what your CB build focus is. I built a CB with the purpose of getting INTs so my 3rd VA was Clutch because after ball hawk & football genius that seemed like it would help him get INTs more than any other VA... he gets INTs so it doesn't seem to be hurting me. If I built a CB with a focus on pass deflections I would definitely have gone with 3rd down stopper which is >>> than long reach

Disagree. If you're getting mentored it might be better than FBG, but I would go so far as to say that in general FBG is the #2 CB VA, behind Ballhawk.

Ballhawk/Red Zone Freak/Prime Time Player
What happens is that any time the ball is passed into the end-zone when the ball is spotted within the 20, your chances of getting a INT greatly increase. I will explain by using my CBs build even though he is only lvl 32. Take into consideration also that I am exaggerating his VAs for training purposes and that a higher leveled player would get a much larger bonus on this than my guy.

Ball hawk (LV 10) (+20 percent speed)(+20 percent agility)(+20 percent vision)
Red Zone Freak (LV 10) (+50 percent to all attributes)
Prime Time Player (LV 10) (+20 percent catching)(+40 percent jumping)
Total (+70 percent speed)(+70 percent agility)(+70 percent vision)(+70 percent catching)(+90 percent jumping)(+50 percent all others)
Now lets apply these stats and then I will add equipment last

Don't Look This Way (Lv. 32 CB)
Ht/Wt: 6'1", 183lbs
Attributes Without Equipment (Attributes after bonus and equipment is applied)
Strength: 24.05 (36.05)
Speed: 77.32 (145.22)
Agility: 74.32 (138.34)
Jumping: 37.32 (70.90)
Stamina: 32.32 (48.32)
Vision: 65.32 (111.04)
Confidence: 17.05 (25.55)
Catching: 21.32 (36.24)
Tackling: 24.05 (36.05)
Carrying: 17.05 (25.55)

Now that you have a nice summary of what to expect out of a CB when he is playing defense in the end zone vs the pass you should take this knowledge and apply it as this was the greatest thing that I could ever invent. Remember this is only how it would affect a level 32, a level 50 would have much more dramatic changes to him than my guy had. Please continue to bump this topic so everyone knows what the new GLB Strategy is for a CB.

red zone freak is 5% not 50%.

I tried this strategy for two seasons on one of my CBs and one season on another CB btw...had 1 interception in the endzone over two seasons.

RZF stacking with Prime Time player is an enticing combination, but for any 1 player it is extremely unlikely that even 1 situation will occur per game where those could kick in together. Maybe if you force starters in the red zone or something you could get a few situations where it comes into effect, but when you tally how often a pass is thrown in the endzone to your man it is fairly rare.

Considering the Football Genius is active 100% of plays both passing & rushing and you're bound to face more third down situations where both 3DS or clutch activate these become a little more appealing imo.

That being said, I think there is some merit to all LBs, CBs, and safeties putting 5 or so points in PTP so that your defense will always get a small bonus to passes in the end-zone regardless of whether it is to a wideout or the TE being covered by the LB. Similar to how teams use the 2 pts in MS strategy I think as a team these VAs can be more useful.

Hmm I haven't got ball hawk on my CB yet and haven't seen any disadvantages. I heard a theory that since the CB is playing m2m most of the time he isn't facing the QB a whole lot hence the time that ball hawk is active isn't a huge amount. I might change it but i'm going to have to see a huge difference in the CB's on my team with it and me.

I would tend to agree. I'd go with Clutch before 3DS.

I think:

1. Ball Hawk
2. Football Genius
3. 3rd Down Stopper
4. Clutch
5. Long Reach
6. Red Zone Freak
7. Quick

I don't think you can get many more after this.

yea its only the likelihood of redzone freak being activated that increases by 5% each lvl
