► Before I say much about this week's "Game of the Week" let me clarify that I had no foreknowledge of (a) Yellowknife's token boosting or (b) StoutOne's complacency when picking what I thought would be a good game. I'm taking for granted that Magnificent will put forth a fair amount of effort this week in order to keep a hold on a home playoff game in (at least) round one. That said, let's take a look. The Hashishim cruised to a 2-0 record to begin their CPL debut on the wings of victories against teams with a combined 2-20 record. They dropped their next five games before posting four consecutive wins and moving back into the playoff hunt. Halifax is projected to win this game, but it would be an upset if they did. The B-Tards are a formidable opponent and I expect they'll finish the regular season 14-2 setting up a rematch against the Rented Mules in the playoff's second round. ◄

► I was tempted to put the Kansas City throwdown (Rams vs. Gorillas) as the Game of the Week, but it's hard to imagine the Gorillas will make enough noise for the game to be close. That, and the Rams look unstoppable. So, this week's Game of the Week features the current #5 & #6 teams in CPL West. The projector has the Whalers finishing 12-4 in their inaugural season while Thunder Bay is still trying to find what they're missing from last season's 14-2 regular season. After falling to the Durham Ice Odyssey in the conference championship things haven't been quite right for the Bloodhounds. Tadoussac's playoff aspirations aren't etched in stone, but appear to be near certain...can they wrap up one of the four coveted home-field slots in Round 1? ◄

I don't follow how these projections work. according to the projection us Hillbillies are only going to win 1 more game for the remainder of the season. However 3 of our last 5 games are against teams ranked lower than us in your rankings. What gives? how exactly do you come up with these? Or is it just a personal opinion thing.

Anyway I would hate for my first post in your topics to be bitching about the logistics of everything so let me tack on that you are doing some good work here and I enjoy reading them.

Honestly, we're going for a #4 seed, I'd rather play QCBC over the Mules....so don't expect much effort from this team.

I don't come up with them, so there isn't an opinion involved. The only personal bias I add is when I choose a Game of the Week. I dump each week's results into an Excel spreadsheet and it crunches all of the numbers. Back in the early days of GLB Satchmo-N-Dizzy formulated this spreadsheet and (to my knowledge) the only tweak it has received was back in Season 6 when the inter-conference game moved from Week 16 to Week 1. It factors in your win-loss percentage, your opponent's win-loss percentage, points scored, points allowed, and compiles the numbers into the sheet that I post each week. Looking specifically at the Hillbillies...

...it projects a win this week against the Witch Doctors followed by four losses. The Charlesburgh game is close (25-28), the B-Tards not so much (16-43), the "other" B-Tards (i.e. Sons of Doug Flutie) it projects as a tie (32-32), and the Village Dogs another solid loss (13-45).

Well I think the predictor works well when the teams are further apart in ability.....This season has seen to many close games for it really to have a strong record.

Right now for the Hillbillies I think it is running at 5 right and 4 wrong or something along those lines. Teams are just so close and so many games are won by a TD or less, It can spit out a number and call a win....but if the game is less than a TD apart come half-way thru 4Q, all it needs is a INT or FF or Lucky punt return and bingo the predictor is wrong
