I am a receiving TE Level 21
I joined a team that only runs but didn't find out until after I accepted contract
They told me I'd play a lot (only 2 TEs)
I'm playing less then with my old team
Thrown to 3 times in 245 plays
1 reception for 40 yards in 7 games (most of that after the catch)
Messaged OC and Owner asking for more passing
OC said he'll throw more in blow outs (no indication of that happening)
Not happy seeing zeros a cross the stats line...

... What would you do?

Tough break Charles, I'm in the same position. I guess we just ride it out until next season, then get on with a new team.

Looks like you're getting enough plays for max XP. You signed the contract, you have to live with it. You might ask to renegotiate to end at the end of season 12, but that's probably the best you could hope for.

Well, I'm not sure what that has to do with my situation

I'm saying - the team didn't tell me 'hey, we're a running team and we see that you're a receiving TE, you still interested?'

They just said "You're gonna play a lot" we need you

Plus, I didn't say I wanted out - I'm honoring the contract and doing just fine

They did start me this last game and I got the lion's share of plays - so that has changed

I personally want to be thrown to in the games because I feel we can benefit and I can learn and adjust

We only throw to the wide outs

Negotiating whether or not the team passes the ball when it's clear they are going to run is futile

My point is... I feel a team should make crystal clear how they want to use a player so this doesn't happen

I have no way to know if my training is paying off

It is a wasted season when I have put all my efforts into certain skills and not see the fruits of my labors

Yes, we are winning and that's is the goal, however developing players with strengths is a big part of this program too

Can anyone sympathize with that and approach the problem from my view?

You could have checked that out before you signed.

Besides, all that matters at the lower levels is getting max XP so that you can continue building your player. As for "no way of knowing if your training is paying off", if you're trusting the sim for a level 21 player to give you feedback in regard to your build strategy, you're doing it wrong. Its much better to have a (generalized) build plan for your player and work according to that plan than it is to toss SP and training here and there all based on the erratic outcomes of sims.

Good luck to you.

Is anyone actually reading my post

Yeah I could have checked a lot of things, but I didn't because I haven't been in the league long enough to know this happens

If I build my player to CATCH the ball and RUN with it, I can't very well tell if he can do it when my team RUNS every down

There needs to be an outlined advisory telling new players what to expect and how to go about advancing

Does everyone grill the team offering the contract about their offensive strategies?

Do they send you a message outlining how they're going to utilize you?

NO - And why don't they? Because they don't care what I want to do with my player

Not in 3 seasons has any team made any effort to advise me of their intentions

And believe me I WILL make sure I know more about their plans

As for this board, I came here looking for positive advice and a way to approach my team with this problem

All I got, in my opinion is "too bad" and "you should haves"

Not what I asked for at all

Don't bother wasting your time replying to this post because I won't be coming back to check it

Take responsibility for your own choices--and the actions or lack therof that lead to those choices. One of my TEs signed with a new team this past offseason. He received over a dozen offers--and signed with NONE of them. Instead I found a few teams in the level-range that I wanted him to play, and then reviewed the previous season's records and run/pass ratio. I wrote a detailed message to the owner of the team I wanted my TE to play for and a couple of days later, he signed with that team.

As for your 2nd round of comments about using the sim results to check the build of your player, again, you're doing it wrong. As that early (level 21 you said) of a build, you shouldn't be swaying with the wind as to how to build your player. Instead, have a long-term build plan in mind and stay the course.

I'd suck it up and learn something from the smart people here who gave you unappreciated advice.

You are in a lvl 16 capped league; passing sucks at low level and your team is running the ball like good teams should. Stop bitching about it and wait for them to open up the passing game. It might be for the playoffs (since other teams will expect them to keep running 90% of the time) or it might be next season. Either way you should be happy you are on a team that is winning.

As for you problems, you've done all you can. They said they would try and throw more in blowouts so give them a chance. Hell, just doing a quick scout of your team shows they have run 144 pass plays this season and 21 of those were "TE Pass" plays. I don't know how many you were in for but if you aren't getting the ball when they call a TE route then I'm guessing the problem is with your build and not the OC.

i'm in a similar situation but i'm fine with it
low level teams tend to run most of the time
but plus, i'm getting like 70-80 plays a game so that's awesome
if they're giving playing time, just take it and build your player for the next season.

When I sign players, I tell them to look the team over to see what we are about. If I have a specific role I'm looking for, I make that very clear. Recruiting can be a tremendous grind, especially if you don't send mass offers and target specific build types and look at some game film of them.

When you're a FA, be specific about what you want. If a team interests you, don't wait for an offer. Check their roster, see if you fit, and then send them a pm to see if they are interested in you. It's also greatly appreciated to take 5 secs to go back to your ad and say you've signed so teams don't spend time on a player that is no longer available.

A player demanding to start is also a tough sell because a solid team will not want their hands tied having to meet player accomodations. They'll get everyone time to make the whole team stronger. Plenty of time is available if the team uses the dc correctly. That's where the custom spots are very helpful as well.
