(I posted this in robbs thread but I thought it could use some discussion here to avoid clogging that thread)


Passing Correction,

Fixing passing is a very hard thing to do and cannot be done solely with pee-wee in mind, if we start opperating under separate sim rules from the rest of GLB we will cut off our flow of new players and pee-wee will die.

The root of the problem is that WRs have always had a steeper learning curve than the other positions and QBs just got the same treatment in this seasons sim.

The Idea of a special piece of EQ has some intelligence behind it, but would be cumbersome and wierd, and no one would go for it outside of pee-wee.


I propose this:

All WRs (all not just pw) start out with a fixed bonus to catch ball %, all QBs start with a fixed % bonus to pass quality and accuracy. Every time you level up, that bonus goes down until it is gone completely when you hit level 21. This will help all the lower levels have some form of passing game while they are getting their attributes up and by the time they hit 21 they can stand on their own two feet. The gradual nature or the dropoff would prevent any shocking declines in performance.

Example:

It would work like +% AEQ or VA.

WR starts with +30% catch ball chance, they lose 1.5% every level. The % would be set at something where a WR will still drop 30-40% of the balls, but not 60-70%. (I don't know what the exact numbers are/should be)

The QBs would have the same effect on their accuracy/throw quality. Set it at a number where he can be accurate 60-70% of the time, if 1/3 of them get dropped you have a nice realistic 40%ish completion that OCs can work with and DCs can enjoy trying to stop.


This Idea would help all lower level teams complete passes without creating any problems upstairs.

It would be nice if Bort would just chime in on what he can do code wise and give us some options. Passing was legit in season 10, lots of teams had success. Then we introduced the coverage slider. It took a hit to the passing game. Then came the "Qbs affected by pass rush" this past offseason. I dont think adding special attributes will fix that. The problem lies in the Cbs are playing agressive and man up. The pass rush is effecting the QB passess to an unbelievable extent. The fix is to undo what he did last season and then add a bonus to the Wrs, TEs and QBs. I beleive even with a bonus the pass rush is non stop in pee wees and your still going to have little success throwing the ball.

That's key.. because we can spend hours hammering out a solution.. but if it's not something Bort can/will do.. then it's all for naught.

Well that is what i am working on with my thread. Hopefully by the end of this Season I will have Bort chiming in on this stuff. I am letting it go for about a week before i PM Max back

The problem with rolling back the change is it may be working well at higher levels (Idk if it is), like it or not, we are a minority and we can't expect Bort to sacrifice higher level game mechanics to satisfy us, when it comes down to it, peewee needs GLB more than GLB needs pee-wee.

The reason I went with a success rate % boost is that it still leaves it up to the player to figure our how to build a good QB/WR without just handing out a strait bonus to the throwing attribute. I think the inablility to throw accurately is because it takes vision, confidence, strength,and agility in addition to the throwing attribute, much like it take 5-6 stats to make a consistent WR. Code wise it should be doable because the mechanisms should already exist in the code because they are there for AEQ and VA bonuses.

How hard would it be to insert a freaking IF -> THEN statement into the code?

Throwing:

If QB + WR Level < 20 THEN
Normal code block with bonuses to pass accuracy and pass catching

ELSE

Normal code block


Or maybe something that ignores IF/THEN staments and gives bonuses to WRs that are not covered and are not in a zone that is being covered or based on a speed and proximity determination...

Essentially, if the WR/HB/TE is uncovered and the QB is not hurried, there should be a VERY good increase in the chance of a completed pass. If the QB is throwing into coverage or is hurried, I can see passing sucking badly at this level.

Some good stuff here.

I also think we should be able to have custom slots for ALL WR's and how they are entered into the game plan. Strength for runs ect...
Right now we have little to no control other than energy settings.

If we choose to run a slant we obviously would want a speed or possession guy in there. Let us determine who we want on the field for the designed play.

QB should not have to pick a favorite WR 1 and 2. It is too random. Plus you don't even know when the favorite WR will be called on the field at the right situation. You might be on a critical down 3 and 6 in the Red Zone for a flood right pass play and sim calls out 2 strength blocking WR's can kill a drive.
