I appreciate any suggestions in advance.

Anyone tried 'SPY' the QB at the ROLB for the QB bootleg rush out of the I formation? Or is it best to tag the QB spot (speedy) and put the ROLB in weak zone flat?

Several ways to do it. I tend to just blitz CB's or safety's from the edges on formations they like to run the QB out of.

You can also set your OLB's to cover the flats which seems to be working better this season.

I haven't had much success with QB spy so I rely on blitzes and flats.

With the new tag feature you really can set up blitzes/flats and not have to suffer up the middle if they decide to slam it.

Spy is worthless. The spy will not cross the line of scrimmage, only mirror the player. If the opposing QB is too fast, he'll beat him to the edge and burn him.

Try this:

Use the tagging system to tag him as a rusher.

Create a DPC play bringing both safeties up just behind and to the outside of the CB's.

When you setup your DAI, create an input that is specifically for when they run that formation and that tagged player is in the game. So in your case, select I formation and tagged rushing QB. Don't set anything else, that way that defense will come up no matter what the situation is.

Basically the FS and SS go unblocked or at least get a pretty good shot at beating the FB or HB to the blocking point. This shuts down the wildcat every time. Be aware of teams that may do things like stick their rushing QB in to hand off up the middle or use the HB instead of the QB. Scout them and know what they will do first.

Why wouldn't QB Spy work against a QB run if you have a decently fast LB? Remember that the QB no only needs to avoid blockers, but also needs to run horizontal to get to the side AND vertical to get some yards. The LB only needs to move horizontal, so even if the LB is a step slower, the LB should be able to get to the QB if he runs.

Of course if the QB is much faster, then he will get by the LB, but has anyone tried the QB Spy to stop a QB run with a speedy LB?

It's better to have defenders take an aggressive approach (blitz) to the QB run since pathing is terrible. I've tried using QB spy with LBs and safeties and they used the most horrible angles and rarely were able to make a play on the QB.
