at 31, I wouldn't put more SP into speed. more EQ points and natural growth will bring that over 100, which seems to be enough for corners.

With being Mentored, my CB is actually over 90 in all three.
It's awesome.

You can get away with 87 speed in USA Pro imo. All depends on your other attributes.

There are WRs with speed over 110, 120. How can you get away with that with speed around 100 or 90 much less 87...

More than just your speed attribute goes into how fast the players are actually running. Plus, game planning can prevent the team from getting beat just because one player gets beat deep.

Just bc I'm curious...what other attributes? I know agility helps get you to top speed faster along with First Step. But what else would go into how fast a player is?

I think the question is what attribute affects how fast a WR you can cover. E.G. if a 120 Speed WR with 12 First Step fires off on a long route, what does it take to cover him?

a million things is the answer...first you need to know what type of cb are you building a zone/cover 2 type or a man-to-man type...for a cover 2 with safety help...agility/vision/change direction/super vision/ballhawk/SDC may all be as big a factor as speed...for man coverage speed will be important and is impacted by many things...first step/vision/type of route run (fly pattern verses others) along with secondaries like jumping/swat ball/SDC/ballhawk/3rd down stopper/clutch/strength
that is why there are so many lively CB debates out here and why looking at CB stats never tells the whole story...that is why what Longhorn says is correct...coverage scheme and the strength of the defensive secondary (other CBs and safeties) all combine in determining what speed you need...use the recruiting season to study WR builds the marketplace to see what their builds are at your current lvl as a gauge of where you need to be to be competitive...
for a plain and simple answer...for a fly pattern in man coverage you probably need about as much speed and first step as the receiver you are lining up across from...for everything else...more goes into the equation...and if/when bump and run goes into effect...even my plain and simple fly pattern will need to be updated...
also...at every level you are chasing a moving target...60 speed is fine at lvl 25 but not at lvl 40....80 speed is fine at lvl 40 but not at lvl 60...
determine the type of player you wish to build...build him accordingly and find a team system that best fits your build...and you'll have success...

Agility helps, as does vision. Tbh, CBs start off of the line, and its awfully hard for WRs to create separation on streaks considering they only have 20 yards to do so. In general, what kills are routes that change direction, biting on head/pump fakes, and not being able to deflect the ball when its thrown and the receiver is well covered. None of these require 120 speed on a CB.
