I have a L27 LB, last season he had 4 VPs in Power Tackler, still only forced 2 fumbles. I'm not saying PT doesn't work, I just think there might be better VAs for him to be using for the upcoming season -- most notably, Clutch.

What do you think?

P.S. -- If you post saying "retire him", fuck you, in advance.

I think you have to take it to at least 10 to determine a VA's usefulness. With the yearly resets, I'd try a different one every season until you find a select few that work for your player.

Fair enough. Anybody else?

Build is closed but at level 27 do you have enough strength/tackling to warrant using Power Tackler?

STR is over 55 and TAC is over 50, natural, with no EQ in either. Which is why I'm thinking that PT wouldn't be as beneficial, yet.

wouldn't do clutch. It helps SAs activate and the LB SAs aren't that great.

Good call.

I'm not a great fan of clutch although I don't agree that it helps SAs activate...I think people have taken Bort's words on the subject slightly out of context.

I do not understand how this could be taken out of context.

Can we get more info on what exactly clutch does? It says "various bonuses", but what does that mean?

There's way too many different bonuses to put in the description. Catching, tackling, intercepting, forcing fumbles, making kicks, deflecting passes, etc. The bonuses get tacked on to the various scores, and they vary depending on the situation (more on 4th down or late game, etc)

Can I assume from your response Bort that Clutch does in fact also help special teams, and not just offense and defense, so it would be a valuable attribute for a Punter trying to make a clutch coffin corner kick?

Yep.

The question was asked: Does clutch really cause SAs and other VAs to activate more often

my question is, does clutch have the exact same affect as extra points in the SA have, or does it only give a bonus to the roll that the SA is effective. I don't think Bort answered that question. I think "activate" in the question equates to "succeed".

My impession is that clutch basically adds a small bonus to every roll and this includes the roll to see if an SA activates. The problems with clutch is that Bort has never defined how big of a bonus you get and whatever it is, it seems to be pretty small.

This is interesting, everyone seems to have a different interpretation of how "Clutch" works.
Adding everything posted above it would seem to function like "Superior Vision" in that "SV" does not boost Vision per say.
But it does add a modifier to the Vision rolls in the situations stated.

So "Clutch" gives many little situational bonuses to various rolls, depending on your position, and the down/time remaining/field position ect ect ?
With one of the 3rd/4th down functions increasing the likely hood of your SA firing?

That all really sounds too good to be true.

I tried Clutch a couple of seasons ago. I noticed better reaction at the snap, more success at breaking blocks and more consistent tackling. Clutch helps you make plays just as SA's help you make plays. However, there were only about 30 plays where I noticed it, and production did not increase. I don't use it anymore, but then again, I had no SA's when I tried it......
