I've never built nor paid attention to blocking TEs, thinking of building one now.

Haven't really seen this question answered in a few pages deep into this forum...

While pancakes are nice, are blocking TEs more effective for the team as a player who holds sustained blocks or as pancake machines?

I'm wondering this since I've read before that for WRs blocking pitch plays that sustained blocks are more effective than a WR pancaking defensive backs (since they just get back up and then are likely to proceed to get a tackle). Just want to know what other people's experiences with Blocking TE effectiveness so I know if I wanna build a high strength Pancake machine or if I wanna try to build with more focus to Block/Agility for sustained blocking.

STR > Blocking. Pancakes are far more effective than just holding blocks, since you'll need your TE to pancake his initial assignment and then get into the second level ahead of the HB.

There aren't too many different ways to build a good blocking TE.

Makes sense he does play on the line, been on a half-year hiatus from GLB... dont remember how much the TE goes out on pitch plays. But thanks makes good sense to me.

Are there any high-level players of any kind that are blocking builds? The argument in the OP makes some sense to me but for every blocking position people seem to like strength over blocking.

High level blocking TEs? Or high level blocking TEs with more blocking than strength?

I meant high-level builds, with an emphasis on blocking instead of strength. I've never seen people talk about these kinds of builds so I don't know if they even exist or not.

Defensive linemen live for ineffective blocks (see for example, the uproar over the possible changes for agility DTs this season), it seems like the best way to set up a blocking player of any kind would be to take away as many of those broken blocks as possible. I just don't see anyone talking about setting their player up that way.

My TE usually ends up in the top 10 of our conference in Pancakes in AAA....

Get your STR and Blocking to 72 ASAP, then Agility and Speed to 68....

All your EQ should go to Strength and have you OC put you in as a TE2 or TE1 position. (Whichever they have set for the Run plays) Occasionally you'll cath a pass and break some tackles, but don't expect any balls being thrown your way.

Your job will be to pancake that LB and immediatly move onto a DB. You should be trying to get in 2 blocks per outside run play...

Cap vision before speed/agility.

You train STR/BLK then move to SPD/AGL then VIS/CATCH...Train to 35 each on intense before putting points in them...

Agility is a HUGE part of blocking...and you need the speed to stay in front of your HB

His point about capping Vision before Spd/Agi isn't in relation to their importance, but to make as much use as possible of the natural level gains. Majors for TEs are Strength, Blocking, Vision, Catching. So in the long term, capping those four first make sense; even if it's just taking them to 48, as in your "final" build you'll want all of them there anyway.

I'm only going to say this shit once:
BLOCKING TE'S DON'T NEED ANY FUCKING CATCHING NOW THAT DEFENSIVE COORDINATORS CAN TAG PLAYERS. Build your specialists as specialized as you originally intended.

No catching? But then how will my TE throw around the ball with his children on his off-days?
