Don't spend anymore into the catching aspect. do all speed/agility training. Get his agility up to the second cap, then bring up your speed the the first cap. If you have money, spend it to buy basic equipment, and use the basic equipment to increase your stamina so you will get more playing time which in turn will give you more exp.
