Forum > Position Talk > HB Club > How much strength for elusive back? (lvl 44)

When I started the build I never intended on bringing strength very high at all. At the time, there was talk of carrying helping with breaking tackles and keeping the ball off the ground. So, once I had strength and carrying trained to low 30's I went ahead and started dropping SP in to carry and switched to training vision/confidence. So, strength was left alone around 30 or so.

At this point in his career, he seems to have a fumbling problem coupled with a tendency to get tackled in the secondary. His carrying is 64.16, and I plan on 3rd capping it, but how much strength does he need to compliment the carrying? Also, I am curious if confidence could be a more useful substitute to strength (I've heard that it helps trigger SAs, which may help some of those fumble causing hits to become missed tackles).

I'm asking this right now, because I was almost ready to start adding SAs (been real patient). If it wasn't for the fumbling/ lack of big plays I would cap confidence (real close) and 3rd cap carry and go SAs for the rest of his career, but now I am hesitant. I would appreciate opinions from some of the proven agents that read this forum.

Where to go next? Here's the basics of the build (base attributes)

81 speed
79 agility
64 carrying
61 vision
44 confidence
33 strength

Nothing triggers SAs except for the level of the SA.

I don't think it's necessary to soft cap strength to have success, but I'm going to do it on my speed back anyway because I think it's beneficial and it will give me the opportunity to go with spin should I find a good piece of AEQ. It will also help break tackles against cornerbacks, and block. Might also help with catching.

While I'm generally not a big believer in confidence, I do believe it makes RBs better. So I'd definitely cap it in the case of your guy.

It will only get worse. Much worse.

Moar strength, imo.

Yeah, but how much do I need with a minimalist approach to it? Would you take it to 2nd cap before adding SAs? Build is open for you guys to look.

I would say it depends whether or not you plan on adding Spin.

I have a fairly similar build with this RB:

I'm sitting at the same Carrying as you, trying to debate whether I want to dump 15 SPs into Strength, or just train it up for a season or two.

The main problem with the whole thing, is that once you start adding SPs into Carrying, there really isn't anything decent to train Strength with. I'm currently training Jumping/Catching, but will end up going back to training Stamina/Confidence, so I don't have to use any SPs for either.

If you don't plan on using Spin in his career, then I wouldn't spend any SPs in it. The fumble protection that you get from Strength is somewhat limited (from my experience), so I don't think it would be a wise investment for that purpose. I would think working on Stamina/Confidence/Carrying would be much more cost effective, with better results.

Now I'm not saying that Strength should stay at 30 something, I'm just saying that I wouldn't spend SPs in it, if Spin isn't in the plans. I would eventually want all of my RBs to have at least 50 Strength, but it's definitely more urgent (therefore worth the investment) if using to help activate Spin consistently.

mcallero: cap confidence, stamina, strenght and catching..add enough point into elusive sa's and 3 or 4 into cover up sa's.
next season change va's (track star and quick are not so good) into slippery, and quick feet
try this way

I don't think strength is the answer for stopping fumbles. There's more to it than that. Plus, I've seen players with high strength, carrying and the SA Cover Up get more fumbles than a player that doesn't have as high, but higher other attributes.

If it was that simple, don't you think everyone would be doing it by now?

yeah, I've decided I want to cap strength, possibly second cap it. however, it seems like fumbling is just something he will have to deal with.
