We're nearing the midway point of the season, and things are about to get interesting for the cool teams (by cool teams, I mean Ketchikan, I don't give a crap about your team.) There are some really good matchups this week, including Hedgehogs-Mighthawks (I bet you could make a really cool t-shirt for this game), Hounds-Spokane, and the biggest game in GLB history (and our Kampfire spotlight game of the week) Ketchikan-Marauders. Last season's meeting between these two teams was won by Ketchikan in a shocking upset, mainly because Minnesota didn't try (they didn't really want the 3 seed anyway.) Can lightning strike twice? Will Track6Track7 keep inserting parentheticals in every sentence he writes? Stay tuned! On to the rankings:
1) Minnesota Marauders - Here's the rundown on the Marauders. They have beaten two great World League teams (including the Shockers), they have not lost a game or scrimmage, they haven't given up a point since week 4, and they have the best offense and defense in the West. Ketchikan's only chance of not losing by 40 in this one is the slim hope that the Marauders are looking ahead to their statement game against Bonn later tomorrow evening.
2) Nashville Hounds - As dominant as Minnesota has been, the supercomputer still thinks the Hounds are right there with them. The Hounds are a great match for this season's sim, and they're rattling off impressive win after impressive win. They're alright guys too now that they've stopping bitching about everything.
3) Washington Wolfpack - Appear to have righted the ship, plus the loss to the Hounds looks nowhere near as surprising as it did when it happened. Should Painmaker return, they'll be a strong contender for the regular season title.
4) Ketchikan Kamper Adventure Rentals - Demonstrating a tendancy to pad players' individual stats relentlessly for recruting purposes. Dravz is leading the offensive MVP race, Anne Richards is the top defensive player in the conference (LaSnyder Hitsmuch is currently third), and Money in the Bank is redefining kicking as an art form. Currently undefeated, but have probably played the weakest schedule of any team in the league.
5) Lincoln Navigators - It's easy street for these guys for the next several weeks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNTVIgvQayE
6) Spokane Privateers - Will get to rebound from an hard-fought loss to Ketchikan with... the Hounds. This team is very good and will be a tough out in the playoffs.
7) Chicago Hedgehogs - Everybody on the bandwagon, these guys have won four straight after an inauspicious start! The stifling Hedgehog D is led by the ferocious tackling of, and occasional pass deflection by, star CB Vegitto Hogan. Things get tougher for the Hedgehogs in their next three games, with Northwest, Spokane, and Minnesota on the schedule, though.
8) Northwest Mighthawks - Supercomputer says they'll make the playoffs, unsurprisingly.
9) Laredo Lesbians - Holy shit, they finally stopped embarassing the league in scrims!
10) San Diego Demolition - Should be able to stave off the vultures for a little longer with Portland, Timpanogos, and WSI in the next three weeks, if Mattman hasn't already given up.
11) Portland Aftershocks - Two in a row baby! Improbable bid to not get relegated is the story of the league thus far.
12) Dread City Diabolicals - They're pretty close to being a competitive team, but loss to the Hedgehogs stings.
13) Timpanogos Thunder - Started off strong, but their offense has completely disappeared. At least they beat the Mighthawks.
14) Carson City Cubes - Huge matchup with the Battalion this week to see who gets to stay in USA Pro.
15) New Jersey Battalion - NJBs of the league are a study in contrasts.
16) West Scranton Invaders - Hey, I just noticed they have a couple of human players. That's cool, I guess.
