I have a solid L66 WR that in recent games has had a lot of "caught ball--knocked loose" plys.
His strengh is 47 Carrying 58.43 Catching 72.25---Also 6 vet pts toward Nerves of Steel.
I know it says 5% chance of re-roll and it will help retain possession. Not sure if I understand that wording, probably that the play won't result in a fumble after a catch--but I want to cut down on ball knocked loose. I have been adding all my training points to strength and carrying but its not helping much. Any help or ideas that your WR might have used to improve on this situation would help. Thanks ht.

What's the vision and confidence sitting at?

At this level Vision should at least be at the 3rd cap.

Granted, your receiver is in AAA, mines (Level 57) in AA. My receiver is the 3rd rated receiver in the league with the highest success rate based upon targets-receptions and the like. This receiver has had one ball knocked loose this season.

If you want me to share the build just let me know.

In my opinion, it's not strength, it's a combination of catching, vision and confidence.

Red Herring on the vision imo. I'm not gonna debate whether vision should be 3rd capped (though imo it shouldn't be in the VAST majority of WRs). I will definitely say that vision has very very little in knocked loose balls.

As far as Nerves of Steel goes, when it is maxed it out'll roughly cut your KL drops in half compared to how often you get them with 0 in it, though imo possession receiver is prolly a better VA for it though its debateable.

Also worth noting, catching has no effect on defended KL balls, confirmed by bort. It really should be the major factor, but it simply isn't cause bort's retarded...

I had at least half a dozen knock loose passes last season, none so far after eight games. I maxed out NOS and soft capped strength. We were also dropped back to AA this season so I don't know if that has any effect also.

Glad to see the input nflmanjs.

Unfortunately....

1. Soft-capping strength will have an effect.

2. NoS will have an effect, but mathematically it'll only eliminate around half of your would be KL balls without it. This is not debateable.

3. Oceana AA is redic weak. Hell, most of the CB's your facing are in the low 50's. Knocked loose passes become a big problem once CBs max out jackhammer, which is most CB's 3rd VA at the easliest and they can't start pumping it until their mid-to-late 50's. Not to mention most players in AA don't have great builds and are unlikely to know how great jackhammer is.

4. Sample size. Not to sounds condecending, but half a season of play doesn't mean much if anything. Throw in the fact that your build (in terms of effecting KL balls) changed a good bit, your competition changed a shitload, and you now have a new VA, its incredibly tough to get any real info about KL balls out of your player unfortunately.

In S9 my WR had a total of 16 regular season drops = with 15 drops coming by way of "Knocked Loose" and 1 REAL dropped pass.

So ... what did I do ... read the boards and asked around. Anyway, Drifter provided me with this Bort quote

Worthy of taking a look at.

I think moving the stat off into "drops" would underscore for the WR the need for something to hold onto the ball when getting pummeled. I believe it needs to be recorded for the defender as well, though, in some fashion.

When we upped the fumble likelihood this season, the likelihood of dropping passes due to hard hits went up as well (same calculations). We actually did quite a few tests with this before the season started because we noticed PD's being up as a result. If you look at some early test sims, you'll see quite a few fumbles and PD's.

I'm not sure I like the idea of changing the formula to use catching instead of carrying. It makes carrying MUCH more worthless and carrying FAR more important for WR's (and it's already going to be a fairly high stat), while right now you actually need some carrying to avoid dropping the ball all the time when getting hit. It would make it a stat to just completely ignore for just about every WR.

Reading that quote .... it leads one to believe that increasing carrying will help to combat the knocked loose fiasco.

So ... What did I do to get ready for Season 10
1) maxed out Mr. Reliable,
2) got carrying to 50,
3) picked up the Steady Grip VA to help with carrying .
4) upped my strength to 40ish, as I thought that would help too

... hmmmm ... can you guess what happened in Season 10?

With ALL the above "improvements", my WR had a total of 23 regular season drops - with 23 drops coming by way of "Knocked Loose" and ZERO REAL dropped passes.

So after all those so-called improvements, I got 8 MORE drops coming by way of knocked loose, from S9 to S10.

So ... when the choice came out for Possession Receiver and Nerves of Steel ... I got rid of 15 in Mr Reliable and got 15 in Nerves of Steel.

So far this season my WR has only gotten 4 drops in 8 games. (3 drops in 6 games in USA AAA2, and 1 drop in 2 games in USA Pro)

I believe Nerves of Steel is working for me. But ... this is just my experience. I guess everyone else will experience something different, due to the differences in builds.

I am also going to build up Possession Receiver to get the extra protection against Balls Knocked Loose ...
