All -
We wanted to shed a little light on the current status of the WSI team...unfortunately there isn't a lot that I can share (because no one really seems to know what is going on).
As many of you know - Nautilus IS the West Scranton Invaders. For the past 8 seasons; he has lived and breathed WSI football - and in my opinion was one of the best in the game at personnel management - including recruiting players and coordinators. I know there are a couple of people out there who would disagree - but in my experience; he's never treated me with anything but respect and kindness.
Beyond the management side of the game - he was also quite good at scouting; and coordinating both offense and defense. In my opinion he truly is one of the best owners in the game - and like many great owners - he very literally was the glue that held the team together - from mass amounts of PM's handing out kudos to players and GM's after each game; to being highly active in the team forums; to having a vision for the team that stretched out 2 or 3 seasons into the future. He was Professional - and I mean that as the highest compliment.
At some point this past season; Nautilus suffered a death in his family. To be honest - I don't know any of the details; not who/what/why/when or anything. All I know is that Nautilus went from a guy who was online many, many hours per day - to a guy who was more or less awol.
He has pretty much been absent since around week 3 of season 10. The other GM's and Coordinators have put in a ton of effort to keep the team rolling - but I think all would say it has been a disappointing process.
So here we are - for the last 3-4 weeks (real time) - word on the street has been that Nautilus will be back any day - but we still don't have anything concrete. He has occasionally sent out brief PM's to people - but they have contained very little information - and his own predictions for when he'd be back to the game 'full time' haven't come true.
Now the sad part - it seems that WSI in it's current form will not be continuing for season 11. The GMs have gotten together and just don't see a way to plan for next season without input from Naut. PMs are going un-answered - no one has his real life contact information - and we just really don't know how to proceed.
So - barring Nautilus showing up within the next 2 days with some sort of news that he is back - it looks like WSI will be taking season 11 off. Contracts will be restructured to day 40 of this season for those who would like that - and all we can really hope is that Nautilus is ok - I feel certain that real life has thrown him some curve balls - and like a responsible person - he has his priorities in place and is focused on real life at the moment.
Speaking only for myself - I know that if Naut returns to the game full time - and he is looking for players - he will have his choice of my guys - because I don't think there is a better owner in the game.
Thanks for reading - and please - if you're the praying type - throw one up for Naut and his family if you would.
Sincerely,
The WSI Coaching Staff
