Safeties don't really need SDC.
A Free safety is happiest in zone. A S.S. is happiest in zone or in run support. SDC would hardly be used if ever.

Depends on your defensive co-coordinator and the system they likes to use. Shutdown safeties can free corners on certain blitz packages and they're amazing when covering Scat Backs. I think its a great investment.
