Since bhall didn't do last week's rankings, I figured I'd get some out early this week for everybody to jab about
I'm only doing the top 12 teams in my mind though, so if you want to be written about in the future (if I do this again) then goddamn it win some games!
1. Bandar Lampug Pigskin Pirates 5-0
Last Week: W 47-10 against Krungthep
Bandar is the defending champ, undefeated in league play, and also has a good scrim record interleague. They are the team to beat right now, but in my opinion they will need to get to get past ESL this week to prove they are once again a championship calibar team.
This Week: at East St. Louis Tire Fires (L)
2. Pa Dong Dragons 5-0
Last Week: W 40-34 against Duluth Bulldods
Pa Dong proved to the league that they've came to play this season last week with a defying win against ESL. They are coming off a close win against the Bulldogs, however, and still have to face Singapore Marauders, BLPP, and Okinawa later this season. A long way to go for the Dragons, who have yet to make it to a Naga conference championship game. We do have a "bye week" against the hurting RFTs this week, however.
This Week: at Rangoon Flying Tigers (W)
3. East ST Louis Tire Fires 4-1
Last week: W 108-6 against Vanuatu Headhunters
ESL came out with a vengeance against the Naga newcomers this week, with an astounding 108-6 victory. They are 4-1, but ESL is still the class of the league and, as usual, an early favorite to win the jackpot this season. They look to revenge BLPP's taking of the title in this early season matchup with the Pirates in week 6.
This Week: Bandar Lampug Pigskin Pirates (W)
4. Singapore Marauders 4-1
Last Week: W 50-24 against Surabaya Poison Dart Frogs
Singapore is undoubtedly one of Naga's elite teams, with their only loss coming closely to ESL. They look to win out the next two games before the big showdown against PDD week 8.
This Week: at Anchorage Northern Lights (W)
5. Okinawa Leathernecks 5-0
Last Week: W 54-31 Tongduchon Cowboys
Okinawa may be undefeated, but they haven't impressed me too far this season. They've had three straight questionable and close wins against the lower half of Naga, so they haven't exactly proved they are an elite Naga team yet. But they still have a lot of chances to prove themselves, especially against three tough opponents coming up in Duluth, ESL, and Krungthep.
This Week: at Krungthep Garudas (W)
6. Singapore Buddhist 3-2
Last Week: W 37-17 against Rangoon Flying Tigers
It's hard to rank Singapore here after a questionable win against Rangoon this week. I think it just shows the drop off between the best of Naga and the playoff contenders. The Buddhist aren't a pushover though--although they have 2 losses those have come from 2 of SEAPL's best teams. Watch out for Singapore as they try to dismantle Surabaya this week and attempt an upset against the other Singapore week 7.
This Week: at Surabaya Poison Dart Frogs (W)
7. Duluth Bulldogs 2-3
Last Week: L against Pa Dong Bulldogs 34-40
Now I know Duluth is 2-3, but they've had one of the hardest schedules to date and are a sure playoff team in my mind. They did lose to the Buddhist, but their other losses come from Pa Dong and the Singapore Marauders. They are in the 9 spot right now in the technical standings, but they look to move into the top 8 against Vanuatu this week.
This Week: vs Vanuatu Headhunters (W)
8. Cambodia Mountain Men 4-1
Last Week: W 55-0 against Quahog Drunken Clams
Now I know Cambodia must be feeling bad, being ranked below teams with 2 losses more than them, but frankly they'll probably wind up with the same losses in the future. Right now the key games for the Mountain Men to get into the playoffs are weeks 7, 9, 13, and 15. With 3/4s of their games won this team will be a playoff team for sure, probably around a 5 seed. But as of now, they haven't shown me much to tell me that this is one of the better teams in Naga, although I do like them a lot.
This Week: at Tongduchon Cowboys (W)
9. Vanuatu Headhunters 3-2
Last Week: L 6-108 against ESL
Man, I feel bad for this team. They had about 7 TDs given away on PRs last week, and also got killed against the I weak pitch. Oh well, they have to forget it and move on, because they won't be getting any sympathy votes against Duluth, who'll they'll want to beat if they want a good shot at a playoff seed. These SEAPL newcomers are obviously having a tougher time up here in the big leagues, but I like them to sneak in and maybe nab an 8 seed, if not this season then possibly the next.
This Week: at Duluth Bulldogs (L)
10. Winona Warriors 2-3
Last Week: W 35-30 against Anchorage Northern Lights
I can feel the Winona too high chants in my head now...I'm yelling them too. But the truth of the matter is that this team is not to be taken lightly. I'm not particularly smelling playoffs for these loud-mouths, but it's definitely a possibly with how close they've played in their three losses. They'll need some upsets, but it's a possibility.
This Week: at Quahog Drunken Clams (W)
11. Surabaya Poison Dart Frogs 2-3
Last Week: L 24-50 against Singapore Marauders
This SEAPL newcomer has less luck than the team they beat in their championship game last season, the Komodo Dragon. I don't know if it's that Naga is better (ok, I do know that Naga is better), or if Komodo just got better, but Surabaya has a very slim chance at making the playoffs this season. I think they should make a splash though, and hopefully they mix things up a bit with a few upsets this season.
This Week: Singapore Buddhist (L)
12. Anchorage Northern Lights 1-4 and Krungthep Garudas 0-5
Last Week: ANL L 30-35 against Winona and KG L 10-47 against BLPP
I really don't want to slight Anchorage here, but I really do think Krungthep is the better team, but since Anchorage has actually managed to win a game, I figured I'd settle it in a tie
. Both of these teams probably will not make the playoffs this season, but both ARE good Naga teams and probably would dominate in garuda
Krungthep has had the harder schedule to date, however, so I think with a few suprises and a win streak they might be able to pull off an 8 seed. But good luck to these teams as they continue their seasons!
This Week: ANL at Singapore Marauders (L) and KG vs Okinawa Leathernecks (L)
