Has anyone tried playing a DT as the containment DE? Wondering how successful that is and what the penalty is?

It is hard to find a good containment DE, everyone wants to be a pass rusher. Would have thought that a solid DT w/higher strength, speed and agility might be able to sub there, have been unable to find any threads on this though. Underdog and regood, have you tried it?

I've had it happen to a couple of my DTs and it does suck. Most recently it was on a slow build team for the purposes of getting snaps. Even when my build was somewhat filled out, it was obvious that the OOP is a killer...not sure why that is.

Thanks. Would not have thought the penalty was that high, oh well.

People just need to suck it up and stop being glory hogs. Containment DE's have a place in this game just as much as blocking TE's do now. The problem is you can't set it up on the defensive end just quite yet. Hence their lack of usefulness because you can't use them on particular downs. It really sucks, but I'm still making one in hopes that within the next couple of seasons, the depth chart will let the DC's do something on the defensive end as far as player substitutions depending on formations and play type.

Absolutely tried it. And whoshotjr is correct. The OOPP is ridiculous for a guy who moves over one spot on the d-line.

with energy settings and force starters you could do it...but it's probably at a major cost to the rest of the defense lol

I'm having my DT play as a containment LDE and i'm top 6 in D MVP...

My level 12 DT = http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1146268 (build open)

In the long run he will be in a 4-3 as a DT but i'm putting him at DE because i have a 3-4 scheme with another DT playing NT and I wanted both my guys getting max XP

yeah - low levels probably do not show the negative impact as much...

My worst season was in #4, where I played DE mostly.

The last time I did that was in season 6 with my DT after I couldn't recruit a replacement DE in time. The results were pretty good, but that was also before the OOPP. Since then, I have not had a reason to do that again, so I couldn't tell you how effective that would be now.

It totally sucks...

My slow-building DE's are all being build at containment guys...
