I built this guy as a speed rusher originally. Clearly those days are gone. His str/spd/agi are all at or above the 68 cap. He's done awful the past two seasons and needs an overhaul. I'm guessing moving EQ from speed to agility would be the way to go, but I still worry about him getting 'caked like crazy. Last game he got slammed 11 times, made no tackles and had 3 hurries, which I understand are still pretty useless. Is he redeemable?

Edit: He currently plays on the left side. Would a shift to RDE be advised or are his problems solely build related?

i'm a fan of agility, personally. my DE survived the "drought" of the last two seasons brought on by severe pass rushing nerfs.

he got a couple sacks in there. but hurries aren't worthless at all. they screw up the pass quality of the QB. all those points he put into "tight spiral" are undone when your player "hurries" him.

and you know what else is a big help? having an awesome NT and DT next to you on the line. hate to say it, but you need a better team ...

oh, also. don't ever change build strategies midstream. just power through the nerfs/updates/"fixes"

Yeah, I'm not switching his build strategy. More just leaning towards an equipment rebuild. Only problem there would be his AE. He's got a First Step piece that's fully upgraded along the speed path, and I just recently rolled him up a Tunnel Vision piece and am working on getting that one up to par. It's currently at +2 agi, +1 spd +2 TV. He's not wearing it yet.

Perhaps you could be more vague? Those statements are far too precise to be helpful.

Meh. I'll probably just let him finish out his contract and retire him. Since 97 speed and ~80 agility are both way too low.

What's up with the VAs? I'm guessing that's where you can make the most impact. Pass Rusher 15 for sure. Agility is a touch low. SAs need some work.

97 speed is not too slow. You just don't have the SAs to support it.

I disagree. I think SA are way over valued. I much rather use those same points to make one skill in the really really elite. You have the same builds for most 95 spd 80 agility 7 FS 7 TV blah it doesn't work and people keep giving advice that it does work.

It's highly opposition dependent. Some games you kick ass, some games you get shutout. However, you can apply pressure against most OTs - they're still much easier to build than DEs, so you will find guys who you can't get through no matter what.

The SAs work by boosting your natural attributes more than raw points in those attributes would accomplish. First Step/Tunnel Vision boost your effective agility. Tunnel-Visioned-Speed DEs still own the stat categories (at least for Season 9, who knows what'll happen in 10) because non-speed DEs struggle to reach the QB in time, whereas speed DEs struggle to break the block, but generally threaten the QB every time they do. So if they only shed once every 10 snaps, that's still not that bad.

Also, from the Changelog:

- Tunnel vision SA being active allows DE's to get a short speed boost when successfully stunning their blocker.
- QB's will not see blind side rushes coming as easily, so are less likely to throw the ball away early.
- First Step has been updated to not only improve acceleration as it normally does, but it actually increases max velocity briefly when it goes off. This allows those with very high agility to still see some benefit from the skill.
- Update to the maximum allowable angle for successful pass blocking, since there's been some blocks around the edge that look like holding.
- Knocked loose pass chance toned down a little in general.
- Coverage distance slider has been added for defense.

Those are all boons to the speed+SA DE. The pass blocking angle is nice for everyone, but seems most applicable to the guys who try to get around the edges the fastest without engaging the OT.

I'd recommend putting some VA points into Jump the Snap - you want to maximize your chances of getting around the edge quickly.

Other than that, get some backup DEs for the team. You're playing every defensive snap currently with a 47 stamina. For most of the game you are probably too tired to get a good burst around the edge.

Actually I hope it helps my DT on the three man line play like this one. This was a play from last season.

That looks like a bug to me. The RG ducks out of the way and the C doesn't move - though I suppose it could just be a really bad build.
