I'm thinking about developing one of our FBs as a pass protection specialist, using the FB custom slots to put him in only on passing plays to help protect and pick up blitzes.

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this, and what attributes you think are most important.

Obviously vision, agility, blocking and strength (and Spot Blitz SA) all important, but how relatively valuable is each one for this role?

Good question. Me and another FB on a team my FB plays for are splitting roles. The other FB is more of a strong blocking/powerback type and mine is more of an agile outside blocker type. Basically I took agility. blocking and strength to 68 in that order. Well, I capped speed before taking blocking and strength to 68 from 61.

Speed and vision are next on my list. I suspect that VAs and SAs will separate the builds further. I will likely have lost of outside blocker and maybe blocking back. I also have lead block and spot blitz.

I can't post more of my build but in the sticky above you can see his build a few levels ago.

I haven't tried it simply because the past two seasons haven't really needed a FB be kept in to block so it was more valuable to have a back built to receive on pass plays. It'll be interesting to see if the blitz changes this season change that. Still, I'm not sure if the build is different enough from a rush blocker to warrant carrying two blocking FBs.

I would think it would be built a lot like a LG. You can't neglect speed in the final build wither--I often see my FB start blocking to the right but then race over to the left to pick up a blitzer.

Blocking back VA would be nice in that build.
