I have a kicker who has been slow building for three seasons. He's only trained and no SP's have been allotted. He is level 8 and has 50 SP saved. I'm planning on playing him in season 11. My questions are,

Is it better to just keep training and save the SP as he levels naturally?

Should I Cap some attributes, and continue training?

Should I boost the 3 levels to lvl 11 and naturally train to 13+? I think I can get there without going over but I haven't done the math yet.

What would you do?

You're doing it wrong.

You should've capped Kicking as soon as you were able to so you could take advantage of its; natural gains. You've already lost a ton of potential and it'll take a lot to salvage the build as something worthwhile, so I'd just retire and start again. I wrote an FAQ in this forum if you'd like to read it, it's probably just a few topics down from here. Reading FAQs on slow-building can only help you as well.

Capping at level 3 with no skill points banked would have netted you a 54 in kicking with 25 skill points... thus making, assuming one more from training, would have got you to... 65 total right now with one skill point banked.

I believe I saw your kicking at 42 before you closed your build. So, with the 50 points and one from training... that could get you to right now at... 68 with one skill point banked. Plus you have much more vision than otherwise. Just put it all into kicking and continue.

He's open again.

I brought him to 61. I can take him to 67 and with one more training day will get him to the 68 Cap. I know he's not perfect by any means and really has been an afterthought. If he can be a servicable kicker next season then thats good, but I have no heartburn retiring him.

I can't see him being that far behind as a Lvl 8 but hey he is what he is.

No need to retire him because he does have an effective build... the only difference is he lost one season of playing time. If it was me, I would use those points to move confidence up because that is the 1b attribute for a kicker to the 1a of kicking. But, if you would, essentially, move it to 68... he would be again of the game.

Normal would be 49 at level 3... and ~61 at level 7... so you are roughly 5-7 skill point ahead of a normal kicker... with the exception of losing one season of play. In my opinion, if you would bump kicking up to 67... you would have no need to use skill points on it again. That 68 at level 8 is essentially 82 when you reach level 22... that is plenty. Just have to get confidence up though.

If you have not used SPs in 3 seasons retire him and start over.Thats not the way you slow build a player.
