ok guys here we go, the final round of regular season games is upon us and with the west all but locked in to place, my focus turns to the very competitive east and the way things are shaping up the final game of the season for many teams will be the deciding factor if they are hoping to make it in.
Recapping the west, we find that the 8 playoff spots are like so:
1. MEM: MEM play honolulu for the top spot in the west. If honolulu win, the wolfpack become the top seed (if they beat the spartans) and honolulu jumps MEM to the second spot. However, after a humiliating week 14 loss to Washington where Monmouths backup quarterback Elisha threw three game-changing picks, i dont see MEM faltering down the stretch. In the playoffs it may be a different matter, but i see them beating HHW in a close one, and retaining the top spot.
2. Wolfpack: the second seed enter the playoffs with a win against the already eliminated spartans, and after beating MEM by two scores they are flying high, proving that they can beat anybody on any given day. Perhaps the emotion of that game got to them, since in week 15 they got handled by a strong roughnecks team, led by MVP front-runner The Tick.
3. Honolulu: The warriors will end the season 12-4 by my predictions, good enough for third place and a guaranteed home playoff game.
4. SDL: The fourth spot is totally up for grabs, with the texas-Minnesota game deciding who will challenge San Diego for the spot. If the Tick can beat up on Minnesota and San Diego can beat up on the eliminated Freebirds, San Diego have it, and i see this happening. However, if Minnesota defeat the roughnecks, then minnesota have the tie-breaker over the lightning, and therefore take the 4th seed.
5. TxR: My predicted scenario sees the Tick and roughnecks beating up on the Marauders by two scores, leaving the Roughnecks with the tie breaker against them, and texas gets the 5th spot.
6. Compton: In this scenario, we have compton who are doing well this season, and have good wins against quality teams, including a 1 point shocker against Minnesota earlier in the season. This of course means that if TxR beat MM, we have compton leapfrogging Minny into 6th place.
7. MM: poor Minnesota. I really have gone to town on these guys! however, in this last game scenario they take the 7th spot, and are actually a better team that this seed suggests. dangerous team.
8. This leaves us with the struggling chicago hedgehogs. if it werent for a tie breaker over the Navs, these guys would be out of the playoffs by now. Their late season collaps has been epic. However, no one should sleep on these guys, they could be this season's version of the 2008 buffalo bills, or the 2008 arizona cardinals.
Matchups:
1. vs 8. MEM vs CH. wow. the team that started CHs epic downfall gets to play them again, and in my opinion, the hedgehogs better start planning for next season. MEM wins.
2. vs 7. WW vs MM. the two letter acronym teams go head to head in what should be a very tense affair, and one in which i see the underdog winning. MM beat the wolfpack during the season, they have the ability. MM wins.
3. vs. 6. Honolulu Vs CV. another great game here, and i honestly cannot call it properly. if i was to take a wild guess, i am going with the home team, HHW takes this game by a score or less. HHW wins.
4. vs 5. San Diego vs TxR. Another barnburner in the making, these two teams played late in the season, where SDL came out with a close one against the roughnecks. can san diego stop the Tick? they failed to in the first encounter, and if they let him get out of hand in this one, it could be an early exit for SDL. Im going with my home boys here. SDL by less than a score. Lightning CAN STRIKE TWICE.
And now to the eastern conference, where the matchups are incredibly interesting.
Green Bay play O in what should be an interesting matchup. GBM have locked up the first seed in a conference where the rest of the playoff spots are up for grabs. THIS IS FOOTBALL!! I see GBM beating O here, leaving room for other teams to leapfrog the shit out of the football guys.
The golfers can take the second spot with a win over the gamblers, but they will need the shockers to be shocked by the gurupies. I see the gurupie game being a close one, and if they can pull out the win, the golfers have what it takes to take the second spot. I see the golfers winning, and the gurupies pulling the upset.
However, even with a gurupie win, they only guarantee themselves the 6th spot.
The 7th and 8th spots in the east are BY FAR the most intriguing in all of USA pro. 3 teams vying for two spots. I see the naturals taking their bye week game against CCC and ending up at 9-7. that guarantees them a spot. Now the last spot is up for grabs.
Carolina have stormed back into contention and are lying at 8-7 after a 6 game winning streak. WOW! this is how USA pro should be. Their game against the currently ranked 9th place bullets couldnt have any more meaning. for both these teams, a win and your in is the rule of the day.
by the way, sorry for not being able to do these the last two days, had to go away on a trip with the GF before a trip away.
