Clarification on blocking skill in the OP for you guys.

Basically, you have to win your blocking battle roll (using blocking skill) before you get a chance to see if you can stun or pancake.

what about back in the earlier days when blocking was said to help the defense?

It's still part of the formula. Hasn't changed any. Vision and Agility and SA's and such are more important though.

VISION? REALLY?

Now VISION helps you to shed blocks?

What the hell.

I think Vision helps you get off the line faster, which helps avoid blocks. I would not think vision factors into breaking a block. But frankly, it would make more sense than blocking.

Bort just said that "Vision and Agility and SA's and such are more important" in the break block roll.

Exactly. But still...it seems so contrary to what it was before. :\

Vision is important period. it seems to be a factor in almost all "rolls"...think of it as football intelligence - instinct -"know how" and it makes sense that it would be in the break block roll...vision allows you to know how to break a block and have good football moves. I know it is in the tackle roll also. I just do not think it is the major part of any roll (except for jumping the snap)...but it probably plays a percent in almost everything a player does.

I've always felt vision helps with breaking blocks just due to the emphasis that Julius Dee put on it before there even was a snap delay (I know a lot of that was due to just overall better pathing due to vision though).

Julius Dee didn't break blocks. He avoided them.

And now he sucks.

I'm convinced that Vision, Stamina & Confidence are a part of every play by every player. They are under the heading of "Mental Attributes," and I don't know any sport where playing "smart" isn't to your advantage.

Not saying that everyone should go nuts with them, but it's probably a good idea to get them out of the teens if you want you guy to play well.

Yeah, but he doesn't tell you how much. He also says agility and SAs in the same sentence like agility, vision, and SAs all have an equal part in shedding the blocks.

I still say strength and agility are 5X more important in shedding blocks than vision.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if tackling was involved in the shed block equation.
