I hear a lot about First Step AEQ but which is better for a pass rushing DT, First Step or Blitz? Yes, I understand if one has a better + to an attribute but all things being equal which is more effective?

I personally like FS more in this situation because my understanding of Blitz is that it only works when you're not engaged with a blocker and rushing the passer. I could be wrong there, and if I am, then blitz is better...

But FS helps you get past the blocker, as you'll already be going faster when you engage with them, so theoretically it should make it easier to get past them

I've only tried first step. It's pretty nice when it works, doesn't guarantee a sack or anything but certainly helps disrupt the play. Can't speak to blitz.

I don't think I've ever heard that blitz doesn't work if you're engaged with a blocker.

I don't buy the blitz not working if engaged with a blocker. I have a 32 DT with blitz and he is doing fantastic considering he is at least 8 levels below the league average and has gone up against players with 15+ levels on him.

Blitz helps more if you have very high natural agility and speed

First Step allows you to neglect agility a little more and focus more on speed because it enhances the acceleration portion. However, you still need high agility for the shed block value it provides.

4 Blitz on my DT did absolutely nothing. I now have FS on him though and I do notice a slight improvement

What was his natural speed/agility? Blitz is a boost to both attributes, so the higher they are naturally, the better the SA is.

I'm loving blitz on my DT

He only has 1 shed block and 29.65 vision. I feel that blitz is helping him out quite a bit. 80.89 natural agility, 64.65 natural speed.

First step on a DT, acceleration is as good as the DE's.

Doesn't Blitz only work when the play calls for the player to be blitzing?

Anytime a player is rushing the passer he is blitzing as far as this game is concerned. This has been confirmed by Bort.

He has 65 natural speed and 78 natural agility.
