This is part of the news, but I never have time to get it in on a timely fashion...so my predictions are separate this week.
Last Week: 6-1-1
Overall: 20-11-1
London Monarchs (0-3) vs. Hattgenstein Volunteers (2-1)
Not much to see here in this match-up. Hattgenstein is going to make short work of the Monarchs, and this contest shouldn't even be close. To make up for it I will make cheesey Volunteer puns. For example, there is no way in hell that I would Volunteer to watch this game. Also, after the beating they put down on Monarchs they are going to wish they are more then just volunteers...pretty funny shit if you ask me. This game is going to get out of hand, so do me a favor, and don't watch it.
prediction: Volunteers win, 85-10
Woodridge Lumberjacks (0-3) vs. Bonn Dynamo (1-2)
This is going to be very similar to the game above. Bonn stumbled in the beginning, but they will get their record evened up after putting the smack down on the Lumberjacks. Bonn is going to start their season fresh after this game. Hopefully they will turn it around and begin to be a top contender in the Alpha conference. I'm sure that my old buddy WoC would love to see that happen.
prediction: Bonn makes things ugly, winning 74-17
West Wales Warriors (1-2) vs. E-City Mercenaries (2-0-1)
I was very close on my game of the week last week when E-City played Graz. E-City didn't get the upset, but they didn't lose either. They scored 27 points and ended up in a tie with Graz. I think West Wales is in a load of trouble against the Mercenaries this week. This game is not going to end up in a tie, in fact it isn't going to end up anywhere near over time. I expect E-City to win, and I expect them to win big.
prediction: E-city wins 57-24
Greenwood Alley Cat (2-1) vs. Paris Dream Bolts (2-1)
This game should turn out to be pretty close. The last time these two teams met was in season 6. Greenwood came away with a victory 23-20. This was in AAA, now the two teams meet as the cream of the Western Europe Crop. The outcome could be very different. I think either one of these teams is talented enough to win it, it is all going to be a matter of which one makes the big plays. I have been watching Greenwood for some time now, and they are perfectly capable of getting that play. Not to say that Paris isn't, but I think Greenwood will be the team that happens to get it this time around. Expect a tightly contested game.
prediction: Greenwood wins 27-20
Paris Philharmonic (0-3) vs. Footballforum Fighting Danes (3-0)
If you had told me that FFFD would be the best team in the early goings of the season, I don't think I would have believed you. But right now they are just that. While they might not be the most talented team, record wise they are on top. They are also the only true undefeated team in the conference. The Philharmonic on the other hand is just looking lost so far, and this is a team that once hoisted the WEPL championship trophy. I didn't think they would lose as bad as they did against Portland. Based on that effort, I see similar results with FFFD. The Fighting Danes will stay undefeated as they easily handle the Philharmonic.
prediction: FFFD gets the win 79-24
Belfast Commandos (2-1) vs. Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (2-1)
Both teams have identical records, but a closer examination shows two very different stories. Aberdeen has been winning against tough competition, and beat two tough opponents in a row. Belfast, on the other hand, had an easy schedule, and was blanked against the first tough team they faced. This is also the first team with a winning record they are facing. I don't see much hope for the Commandos, Aberdeen should take this game pretty easily. After watching them get dismantled by Bonn, I don't think they will have much success this season.
prediction: Aberdeen wins, 45-21
Turin THUNDER (2-1) vs. Team Perkis (1-2)
Turin suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Wrecking Crew, and will have a good bounce back against Team Perkis. Turin is a talented team, and they should tear through Perkis. The Only reason Perkis has a win is because they played London. This is another game that will get ugly. Turin will bring the THUNDER!
prediction: Turin blows Team Perkis away 65-17
GAME OF THE WEEK!!!
Graz Grizzlies (2-0-1) vs. Portland Rage (2-1)
Portland did a great job against Paris, picking the ball off 8 times, which is a team record. However Graz is still the bigger story. They did not lose a game in 24 tries, but their winning streak was snapped in a draw against E-City. Those two teams appear to be crazy close so far, and a tie shows that they are of equal skill level. Now Graz finds themselves against Portland, and looking to build a new winning streak to take to new heights. I think this game will be close, but ultimately Graz will be too much for the Rage to handle. This is Portlands firs true pro challenge they will face. If they come out on top then they might be a force to watch out for.
prediction: Graz starts the winning streak again with 1 win in the column.
