Here is a purely Hypothetical Level 41 DT. He bears no resemblance to any level 41 DT I made be the agent for in any way what so ever, so don't bother looking. That said, here is the hypothetical build:

Ht/Wt: 6'1", 308lbs

Physical Attributes
Strength: 96.45 (78.45 Natural)
Speed: 68.5
Agility: 81.83 (72.83 Natural)
Jumping: 10
Stamina: 38.6
Vision: 33.5
Confidence: 40.5

Football Skills
Blocking: 16.5
Catching: 8
Tackling: 78.92 (71.92 Natural)
Throwing: 8
Carrying: 8
Kicking: 8
Punting: 9

Special Abilities
Pass Rusher Abilities
The Glare: 0
Shed Blocks: 0
Swat Ball: 0
Strong Base: 0
Big Sack: 0

Run Stuffer Abilities
Wall: 1 (0 Natural)
Break Through: 4 (0 Natural)
Snarl: 1 (0 Natural)
Big Hit: 1 (0 Natural)
D-Line General: 1 (0 Natural)

Additional Abilities
Monster Hit: 4 (0 Natural)

Veteran Abilities
Power Tackler: 4

15 Unspent Vet Abilities

2 Pieces of Advanced Equipment:

Superior Yellow Shirt
+9 agility, +4 Monster Hit SA
48 Tokens -- Started 3 Agility, 1 Monster Hit

Superior Black Gloves
+7 tackling, +3 Break Through SA
32 Tokens -- Started 3 Tackling, 1 Break Through

So given that, where did this hypothetical DT go wrong, and what should be done next with him?

Your fundamentals are decent to good, but your secondaries are poor to very poor, and your SAs are non-existant.

Pick a path and round him out, he can be a performer in about 6-8 levels, maybe 10.

Heavy DLG investment from now until 9 would probably be wise.

1. I would have put the additional attribute points for the superior black gloves in either strength or agility.
2. Personally, I would have pushed agility up another cap before moving on.

At this point I would be spending my level up sp in secondaries and training agility/speed or agility/tackling and hold off on SAs until I had stam/vis/conf all capped.

If this were a real DT, He'd be training Vision/Conf right now.

Switching this hypothetical DT into a DLG build right now would cost 10 levels just to get to 6 in DLG. He's not a DLG build.

The tackling feels kind of excessive to me. Feels like you could focus more heavily on str/agi to get your production in place, then work on tackling.

A hypothetical DT like this would have 7 tackles this season with 2 FFum.

Obviously the DT would force plenty of fumbles but he could get more than 7 tackles by focusing on str/agi.

as soon as you soft cap vision he'll start producing. i agree with the other comments on rounding out his build. train jumping to 20+, stamina to 45+, start working on the key SAs (shed block, wall). confidence could be higher.. but at 40+ it needs less attention than some of your other secondary skills. honestly i wouldn't worry about confidence for a while.

And it would be a bad use of training. Training an attribute at 40 is about the worst possible place unless it is to que it up at 94% and train it over after it is capped. 33 for vision is OK to train, but I would combine it with agility.
