Being new to this league I really don't know much about most of the teams, but I will try my best.
1. Las Vegas Gamblers
Record: 3-0
Last Game Recap: Had a trap game against the Gurupies this week and it was close going into the half tied at 17. A punt return early in the 3rd quarter that was returned for a TD set the tone for the Gamblers in the 2nd half. That coupled with a turnover and the Gamblers put the Gurupies away in the 2nd half. Gamblers did seem to have some holes in the pass defense though.
Final Score: Gamblers 45 Gurupies 24
Season Notes: Just too many weapons. It is so hard to game plan against them. They seem 1 dimensional with running it 75% of the time, but that is really not the case. You can pile up to stop the RB, but next thing you know the QB is turning the corner for a 15 yard gain. Oh yea their defense is pretty damn good to. I guess you could argue they haven't played the top teams yet, but they are still the defending champs and will be till someone knocks them off.
Next Up: Richey Royals
2. Green Bay Maulers
Record: 3-0
Last Game Recap: In what was supposed to be the game of the week against the Shockers, but it turned into a 1st half of the week. Maulers had a slim 3 point lead going into the 2nd half against the Shockers. The Shockers came out strong in the 3rd quarter scoring 10 straight points to pull ahead by 7. Then came the story of Season 9. Maulers score 14 straight points off of Punt Returns for Touchdowns and never looked back. In the end the Maulers scored 38 unanswered points en route to a 61-30 victory.
Season Notes: Looking at their record and who they have beat, they should probably be #1, but I will not penalize the Gamblers for beating what is in front of them. With that said the Maulers have been SICK this season. They thrashed the Rhine and Shockers both who only lost 3 games each in the regular season last year. They appear to be pretty balanced on offense which is always a good thing. The scary thing about this team is their defense. Sure they have given up some points this season, but the turnovers are amazing. Twenty Three COUNT EM 23 forced fumbles on the season. Also the Punt returns for a Touchdown has been insane for them this season, but will it get nerfed? I see no reason why they wont be their in the end. Only thing bad against them is the whole Packer thing...ewww
Next Up: Alpine Golfers
3. Cincinnati Shockers
Record: 2-1
Last Game Recap: See Green Bay Maulers
Season Notes: Even with losing to #2 Maulers by 31 I still feel the Shockers are a top team in the Eastern Conference. If they don't give up those 2 punt returns for Touchdowns which probably killed their morale, they might have squeaked that win out. They beat the Evil Monkeys in week 1 in convincing fashion and took care of an under rated Royals team in week 2. I wouldn't be surprised seeing the Shockers win out until their match up in week 15 against the Gamblers.
Next Up: Carolina Hammer
4. Washington Bullets
Record: 2-1
Last Game Recap: In a somewhat surprising victory they knocked off the Demon Lions 37-21. Their defense won them the game by forcing 4 turnovers. At one point in the game they score 23 unanswered points which spelled doom for the Demon Lions.
Season Notes: Could the Bullets be back? They did win a championship in season 7. They seem to have a balanced offense. Their defense is near the top in both rushing and passing yards allowed. A questionable loss against the Spartans leaves me a little worried, but time will tell if they are for real.
Next Up: Columbus Woodys
5. Over The Rhine Red Dots
Record: 2-1
Last Game Recap: OTR smacked around the previously undefeated Carolina Hammer 46-21. The 1,2 punch of Cooter running and McClintock receiving proved to be to much for the Hammer who tried to air it out this game only running the ball 5 times.
Season Notes: This is one of the few teams I know very well in this league. OTR stopped the Gurupies from getting promoted to the Pro league in season 7. JKtooley is harsh, abrasive, cocky, but the guy can game plan with the best of them. Some early season struggles with fumbles accounted for their 1 loss so far this year, but they are a force to be reckoned with. They didn't show up against the Maulers in game 2 of the season, but any team that gives up 28 points on special teams, fumbles the ball 6 times and throws 1 interception isn't going to win the game.
Next Up: CCCC
6. Alpine Golfers
Record: 3-0
Last Game Recap: Running with the Devil proved to be to much for the Royals as the Golfers ran over the Royals 38-27. The Golfers outscore the Royals 24-3 in the 2nd quarter and moved to 3-0 on this young season.
Season Notes: You can argue that they haven't really played anyone yet, but I argue that their is no easy game this year. Fact of the matter is they are 3-0. Like the Gamblers above I cannot penalize a team for beating who is in front of them. The Golfers love the HB screen and use it pretty damn effective. While they may be a running team they can pass when needed to. Their defense could use a little work, but that has always been the case with Alpine imo. They aren't going to go undefeated, but I feel they will surprise quite a few teams along the way. Next game against the Maulers will show us a lot about these Golfers.
Next Up: Green Bay Maulers
7. Detroit Demon Lions
Record: 2-1
Last Game Recap: See Bullets
Season Notes: Their 2 wins came by a combined 4 points. In a game I am sure most felt they would win against the Bullets they got beat by 16. They are having some struggles on offense it seems as they are in the middle of the pack rushing and near the bottom in passing yards. They have not forced a single fumble this season which is very odd considering this seasons sim? I am new to this league and don't know much about everyone here, but why do I get the feeling that the Demon Lions are over rated? Well shall see I suppose.
Next Up: ***OFG***
8. Carolina Hammer
Last Game Recap: See OTR
Season Notes: Defense looked great the first 2 games, but OTR exposed them last game by putting up 46 points on the board. Even with the last game they still are tough to run against giving up only 77 yards a game on the ground. They have a season 8 mentality it seems. Run the ball and stop the run. I am not sure it will be that successful this season as I feel every team has to have some semblance of a air attack this season. 3 tough games in a row coming up with the Shockers, Golfers, and Gamblers on tap. A victory in 1 of those next 3 and I think they should be happy.
Up Next: Shockers
9. ***OFG***
Last Game Recap: OFG won a shoot out against CCCC 48-34. Their running game was shut down, but OFG's qb's combined for over 450 yards in the air. EL Kabong proved to be the difference maker with 120 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. CCCC put up a fight, but losing the turnover battle really hurt them in this game.
Season Recap: OFG started terrible last season and this season looked to be the same. Who knows if OFG can make a run like they did last season by making the playoffs after a 1-5 start and almost knocking off the eventual champ in the Gamblers in the playoffs. One thing I do know is that OFG is always a tough opponent and never should be taken lightly.
Next Up: Demon Lions
10. NW Arkansas Nats
Record: 2-1
Last Game Recap: NAN eeked by the Woodys 52-48. Martimas (NAN) caught a 80 yard touchdown pass with under 2 minutes to go to deliver a crushing blow to the Woodys. Martimas was just completely unstoppable with 243 yard receiving and 3 touchdowns. The Woodys gave up over 550 yard passing in a game that seen a combined 1190 total offense.
Season Notes: I am not sure how to view this team. They haven't played a top team yet, but they sure can air the ball out. They are averaging over 500 yards a game through the air, but can they run it when they need to? I really feel this is the season of the balanced offense and if they NAN's cant get a running game going, I don't think they will go that far this year.
