This is the defense that we saw for the most part of 2nd half in our scrimmage today. Basically dropping back everyone into coverage. Needless to say, we did not have much success passing against this defense.

We didn't run the ball much, and when we ran it was mostly pitch plays, so maybe this defense is vulnerable to runs up the middle. But we did ran one I dive against this defense and it wasn't pretty:

The OL just don't know what to do. The RT goes after the MLB, I guess he's coded to block MLB if DE is not there, ignoring LOLB, the LG and LT stands around like it's a pass play. This play completely exposes what crappy blocking coding GLB has. Just pathetic.

Bort could easily fix that by forcing a certain number of players to rush.

My thoughts exactly.

I think he'll most likely just turn it off tho. You know how Bort is.

He needs to remove the insane amount of buffing the o-line has gotten the past several seasons and fix the blocking logic like he should have done after season 6.

Now this I can agree with. But past decisions makes me believe he will fix the logci but not remove the buffs.

Well, OL just don't stand around on running plays because no one is in front of them. They should go down field and look for someone to block. This play would be killed by runs up the middle if the OL actually goes down field and block somebody rather than just standing around because who they were supposed to block is dropping back into the zone. Couple of major problems:

1) obviously the RT and RG blocking code is not complete. The logic is right now is like, block what's in front of you, if no one is there, just stand around. I guess Bort figured that since it's a run to the right, he can just be lazy and not do a complete code. This is like having a WR run a hook pattern and just stops at the end of the pattern.

2) The blocking logic for the right side of the OL is off too. It just doesn't make any sense for the RT to ignore LOLB and go after MLB, even though LOLB is closer to him. I guess Bort coded the RT to go after MLB if DE is not around, this is as stupid as LOLBs running cross the field to cover WR1 if TE is not running a route.
