OK, so in hopes that the play creator will still be in place come the start of the season I'm building a personal playbook from scratch, I will be designed every play personally. The crux of the defense is going to be an aggressive Zone Blitz scheme but Zone has it's downfalls so I don't want EVERYTHING to be zone coverage, I want to have some Man stuff in the playbook.

However I'm really confused on how to effectively set up the man coverage. Can someone give me an example, like:

CB1 - WR1 or TE or HB
CB2 - WR2 or TE or HB
ROLB - TE or HB or FB

I'm just not comprehending how this should be set up, it's flying right over my head. How many options should I set each person for? Should everyone's default #1 be set to a WR (1-5) and then have like LBs fall back to a TE or HB as the 2nd option and so on? This is just confusing the hell out of me for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CB1 should always be man on WR1 and CB2 should always be man up on WR2 (unless you're adding more CBs to cover those two WRs.)

As for the ROLB....it depends on which way the HB is going... if you have him man on the RB and the RB runs right, he's gonna have to cross the whole field to get to him.

Its like this: The first Drop box for (defender A), is the first Receiver (Receiver 1) you want Defender A to cover. If receiver 1 doesnt go out for a route then defender A will move to the second drop box receiver 2 or you can leave those drop boxes blank and Defender A will move all the way to the end to determine Zone or Blitz. Personally if the receiver isnt running a route your player should be blitzing.
