I'm starting a slowbuild and have been trying to find my way through the conflicting theories between speed and agility. personally, i find it difficult to believe that speed should be more of a focus than agility. it may sound elementary, but DEs dont really reach top speed all that often. while having a higher speed will make a player faster, increased agility will increase acceleration and mobility. that said, both are very important in determining a players success.

i was thinking about neglecting speed somewhat while focusing on agility. starting at level 30 or so, i'd start putting points into first step. i can only assume that First Step places more emphasis on agility than speed when calculating its output. as a rough example (excuse the numbers if they dont work based on progression models)....what do you think would be more effective for a pass rusher....

Speed / Agility / First Step

50 / 70 / 8
60 / 70 / 0
70 / 60 / 0
70 / 50 / 8

forgive me if the numbers are awol, but i think you may get the jist of what im asking. in short, what're your thoughts about neglecting speed in turn for more agility and First Step SA. would this be beneficial in becoming quicker off the line while still being fast enough to get into the backfield?

No you think wrong. The more speed the better. the more agility the better. they go hand in hand.

Are you talking about GLB or real football?

You need to build speed and agility both over 68+ ASAP. I suggest working on one at a time so you can see how the player's performance changes an attribute goes up. You can train the other one. Which one first? I don't think it matters. You can make one greater by adding equipment, or you could split the equipment. But regardless of what you do with the equipment, you MUST get both speed and agility both beyond 68 natural as quickly as you can if you want to have an effective if not as close to dominating player as possible for 10 seasons. If you don't intend to play 10 seasons then just bring each up to 60 and work on other things like SA's.

I believe this statement is completely incorrect. I'd guess that whether it triggers or not completely based on the level of the SA. The rate of acceleration is based on speed, agility, FS triggering, and possibly confidence. The top speed achieved is based solely on speed. I'd say if you're going high first step, high speed is key.

This. No reason to accelerate blazingly fast to a middling top speed.
