Hey guys,

I've got a question about man-man coverage.

Can/will the FS ever cover a TE? Every so often, the TE will run free because the FS for some reason chooses to double cover a WR rather than cover the free man. Why is that? Is that a glitch or is it supposed to happen like that? And its NOT because I don't have enough people to cover. Sometimes, I have 4 people covering for 2 WR and they choose to double cover those 2 WR, which is ridiculous when there is an open guy running around.

If so, does that mean I should send a FS into blitz instead of a SS in a cover-0 when there is a TE on the field? (since for some reason, the only players that seem to be able to cover a TE on a constant basis are LOLB, MLB, and SS)

This is a concern because sometimes I like to send the SS for run support but when they pass on me, the FS fails to pick up the TE.

Thanks for your reply,

I think a FS will occasionally cover the TE from a 3 front. Sometimes if you run like a Cover 3, the SS will be deep in the middle, and the FS will take over his responsibilities, which includes covering the TE.

I'm not 100% sure of how to get it to work, as I very rarely run a 3 front...but I have seen it.

This is a cover 0 though not a cover 3, ie the FS should be man-man on whoever is free right?

Thats 2 examples from the last game. The 2nd example is even worst because its exactly how I explained, 4 DBs covering 2 WR when there is a TE streaking down the middle. I think the AI doesn't realise that the FS, or at least somebody, SHOULD change their assignment when the LOLB, MLB, and SS is occupied.

I know that it is very rare that all LOLB, MLB, and SS is sent on a blitz, but still. I would have thought that the FS could cover it for me.

I take it that this is glitch and I have to deal with it? Or should this be sent to somebody to be looked at?

On this play you have a 3-4 cover 0 for 2 WR, wich mean the FS will go in double coverage of on WR.
You send the SS, LILBand LOLB to blitz.
The RILB pick the FB who goes on a route.
The ROLB pick up the HB who goes on a route as well.
Which leave nobody to cover the TE.

This could be changed with the new D-play creator in setting the FS to cover the TE.

On this one you have a 3-3-5 (nickel) cover 0 for a 2 WR set.
2 CBs cover a WR and the FS goes in double coverage of the other one.
You send the SS, LOLB and MLB to blitz.
The ROLB follow the HB.

This time you have the TE AND the FB not covered.

You're lucky the CB reacted quickly to the pass and tackle him, or he was gone. A pass to the FB, if he was fast, could have been deadly as well .

Sending too many players on a blitz is very dangerous. Even with the new D-play creator and setting the FS to cover the TE, the FB still would have bee free.

Wow. Thanks for the great explanation! Thought nobody would be bothered explaining it to me.

Anyways, I understand that sending too many players on blitz is never a good thing unless its a sure sack, BUT I always have at the very least:
[number of guys to be covered] = [number of guys that can cover]
to make sure that in the event that the QB gets the throw off, at least it won't be a sure TD/

The problem is that the FS or CB3/4 should have automatically changed their assignment to man-man on the free guy in a cover 0 and not just on the WRs. Had I known this, I would have ALWAYS left it on cover 1 when I blitz so even though the TE might be free, at least the FS is back there somewhere.

I've always thought that by making it a cover 0, every offensive player would be covered by a player on the field. But I guess thats not how it works.

As you said, the D creator should really help set it up because in the 3-3-5 (nickel) example, I would have expected/made it so that the CB3 and FS cover the TE and FB one way or another.

Thanks a lot mate
