Bear with me on this one, haha

So I read a thread earlier about someone commenting on the SAs that different builds have. One point that they made is that the DLine shouldn't have Swat Ball. Has anyone attempted to build a ridiculous SwatBall DLineman?

What if you build your new guy... level one, start training Strength/jumping. Train those until jumping is 25, pump JUMPING up to 60... half equip in Jumping, half in Strength..

Your Jumping is going to be up around 70 by level 16. Your strength could easily be up to 60.. which isn't high, but it's high enough where you won't be pushed around.

After you get Jumping to AT LEAST 60 base, you get Strength the first cap, right around 49. Then you start in on Vision and Tackling at the same time.

By level 24, you can have BASE stats of Jumping 60, Strength 49, Vision 49, rest in tackling (but never get tackling higher than vision). Half of your equip is in Jumping, other half in Strength, so Jumping is 68, strength is 57...

Now your Dt won't create pressure on the QB, but he's strong enough to not get pushed around, and his tackling is solid enough where, playing on wrap-up, he shouldn't miss too many tackles. As you are right on the line, with the way the sim works you should be right in front of the Qb, so with your ridiculous jumping, and later on some points into Swat Ball....

What do you guys think? I know it is totally off the wall, but I can picture this build being like having another CB out there, that just happens to play on the line, lol.. I can picture CB PD numbers while doing a DT job relatively well, although obviously not better t han average

You would definitely get pushed around with such low tackling. jmo but strength is key for any DT, whatever you want to do, you need to pair strength with whatever it is - agility, jumping, tackling, whatever. Strength is what gives you the opportunity to make a play, the play lasts however many ticks you keep 'passing' your strength checks. imo.

Jumping won't get you many PDs with DTs. I've had 1 guy at 50+ for a while. It seemed to work in Season 6, as it seemed like you could sometimes bat down passes intended for a player 15-20 yards down field, even if you were hung up at the LOS. I think I had something like 12 in 8 games (including scrims) at the end of the season.

However, when Bort increased the passing arc and decreased ball velocity in Season 7 it was pretty much the end of that, as far as I can tell.

Your best bet now is to get a PD is to get in the QB's face.

It's a nice idea. But I don't think it will work until you build your base player first. You need to build up your strength, agility, and speed, all to AT LEAST 60 unequipped, and take at least one of them, if not two of them, up to 68 unequipped. This to make an effective player. THEN you can start specializing. If you deviate too much from building a solid base player then you will get beat a lot. In your case you might see some more deflections and maybe the odd interception, but you will get beat more often that the gains you get will be outwighed by the losses. Build a solid player first, then start to do something to make your player different.

Jumping might be worth training with tackling.

capped jumping was nice when QBs were using bullet passing. When they all went to medium loft, the number of PDs at the LOS went way down.

I've managed 5 PDs on the season, which is decent, I think. 27 jumping currently, been training it (intense with stamina) all season.
