Well, here it is...My HB is an elusive build. He has both speed and agility 3rd capped. I have his strength to the first cap and was considering the following 3 options:

1) Take strength to the third cap. I feel that with all of the success that power backs have, more strength can only help. But will going from 48-68 strength without the power SAs or equipment in strength really make all that much difference?

2) Start investing in SAs. I have avoided SAs completely to this point. He would certainly be a better HB with SAs, he has the skills to use them, but I don't want to spend SP here if I'd be better off 3rd capping strength.

3) Vision. My backs vision is quite low right now and I feel part of his failure is that he isn't finding holes and making the right cuts. It is only in the 30s right now.

My MAIN question is, have any elusive backs taken strength past the first cap and what were the results?

I would say Vision to the first cap at the least, then start working on SAs.

That was definitely a thought...In the long run however, it is best to 3rd (or 4th, 5th) cap abilities as quickly as possible so that the regular level up points are worth more. So I want to either get a solid yes or a solid no about whether or not 68 strength would be worth it before plowing points into a lower lvl skill which can still benefit from training.

It depends on what type of HB you want and how you plan to run with him. If you want an Elusive HB and plan to run onthe Elusive side of the slider, then NO, 68 Strength would not be worth it. If you want a hybrid/balanced HB who will can run either Power or Elusive, then Yes, 68 Strength would probably help.

IMO (And realise that I don't have a RB atm, so my advice won't be perfect), if you want to become more of a a combo back(By taking the strength to 68 route), use the SP that you would have put in STR and put it in carrying. On the test server, power/combo backs with higher carrying had higher YPC and many fewer fumbles than those with higher strength. Also, Carrying helps both when running elusive and running power, unlike strength.
