Thinking of adding some zone on my D wondering if anyone can help what works what doesn't. If you don't want to post feel free to pm me.
Thanks Vegas

A more cynical poster would say zone doesn't work.

It has its place.. but so does the Goal Line D. You wouldn't want to use goalline against a pass.. and you probably don't want to use zone against a pass either..

Not with CBs anyway.. Cover 1, Cover 2 zones can be very effective.

So maybe zones would work against running teams? Thanks for the input.

And that cynical poster would be incorrect.

The only trick to using zone, is never stack CB's. You don't want CB1 and CB3 both playing zone underneath, since they will stack together and become more or less useless. That, and not blitzing a whole lot are the only real secrets to zone. Blitzing leaves holes, so who you blitz has to be better calculated than while playing man coverage.

Here's a game where I had the San Fran Montanas run ONLY pre-designed (mostly zone) plays on defense. It's only 2 or 3 outputs per # of WRs in the formation, so it shouldn't take too long to figure out which ones I set up. I've forgotten now, sorry.

This is the season 6 sim though, so take things with a grain of salt.

Zone in this game can work, but man is definately better. With the passing sim the way it is. A DB can stay with a much faster and better WR in man coverage. And get the Pass Deflection. But the best advice a "Zone Expert" can give you in this game for season 9 is don't use it.

Theoretically it should. In the real world it does. But doesn't seem to translate to GLB.

In zone coverage corners stay facing the line, so they are more easily able to read run/pass, in GLB more often then not it just means they take four+ steps backward before moving to tackle the runner.
