I've been trying to figure out something. I read somewhere ( I forget where) that it's better to run either a man coverage or a zone coverage but not both in your D (in GLB, of course). Any truth to this or is it total nonsense and whoever said should be drowned in a bucket of AIDS? Is one better for lower level players and another better for higher level guys? thank you kindly in advance.

I run both in my defense.
One thing I try to do with zone defense though, is never run it with two CB's stacked in underneath coverage. If you want to go with 4 CB's, run a cover 3. You can run cover 3 with 3 CB's as well, but it leaves an opening for short yardage on the strong side.
That's basically how I do zone, combined with throwing in some preset plays.
Man and Zone both have their advantages and disadvantages. Man is usually more reliable, but zone is more effective when used against the correct plays. Zone also lets you run a 4-3 against Singleback, whereas man coverage would put a LB over top of a WR.

I run a 4-3 with CBs & LBs in man and Safeties in Cover 2 probably about 75% of my team's plays, and its worked quite well.
