Is that my NT pancaking the C and RG, or is it them trying to cut block me? Does the O-line ever go down besides when getting pancaked?

yeah, they must. My C seemed like he was on the ground the whole first scrimmage game but the other teams DT and NT didn't have a single pancake in the stats.

Agreed, my C's were on the ground an amazing amount today...I think it must be a lot of cut blocking.

You wouldn't think they were getting thrown around much : http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=531414

Also, reverse pancakes don't show up in stats....

I would guess it shows cut blocking... I saw a game today that had a DE and an OT both fall to the ground when they hit, so I'm assuming that was a successful cutblock.

Are you sure? I saw some DEs with a couple pancakes.

Those would be pancakes from blocking on special teams, or from int/fumble returns.

That's a double reverse pancake. This is a cut block (watch the LG/DT) http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=441528&pbp_id=505043

Tautology, you're speaking with the confidence of someone who's read something concrete, true?

I can't recall reading anything on the topic, but from watching several hundred games I can say with quite a bit of certainty that defensive reversals don't get recorded. My DTs have always reversed folks pretty often, but the never record pancakes unless it was on a fumble or int return. Those pancake stats come from special teams (primarily) and turnovers occasionally.

Its pretty simple to see. If watch your guy get some reverse pancakes (easy to see now), then look at the box score and see no pancakes, it should be obvious.

So they weren't cut blocks, and were indeed my NT pancaking the O-line guys?

If so, my NT got a bunch of reverse pancakes that scrimmage, reviewing the replays.

Congrats. You have a good build...or played a crap team. Possibly both.

that's the discussion actually...it isn't obvious at all. The fact is that a lot of dots are shrinking on a lot of plays, just trying to talk out what the reason is. It's not easy to diagnose, because it's happening more than it's reflected in the stats, meaning it isn't just a pancake. Basically it isn't that cut and dried.

I think the biggest thing that we are learning from all of this is that all of our players have been "falling down" a lot more than we ever would have imagined for multiple seasons.
